I am slooooooowly training my kids that there are a few items in this house that will ABSOLUTELY be where they should be, each and every time they are looked for. They are:

  1. scissors
  2. nail clippers
  3. sellotape
  4. YOUR FRIGGING SHOES! (they all have a basket near to their bed for these)
  5. the wooden thingee (yes we call it that because I forget things a lot--one of our knives is called 'the cutty thingee'.)
  6. my car keys (this should have been nearer to the top)
  7. the remote
There are probably many more, but... I'm sleepy today and can't be bothered thinking harder. :wink2:

Oh jeez we need some sort of ringer dinger alarm thing on my kids' shoes and hubby's keys. I don't know how many mornings we have all frantically been looking through pants pockets, coat pockets, under the furniture for his darn keys to get him out the door on time. And I have a key hanger! Never puts them there.

Kitchen utensils and my good knives never get put away either.

The pencil sharpener is always missing at homework time.

There's probably more...

Such things can be trained into children? Are you willing to open a boarding school?

Please tell me - what exactly is # 5 - "the wooden thingee"?

Was raised by strict, organized dad. Everything had a place and said item would be returned to that place. Scissors in a drawer with outlines so correct size was placed where it belonged. His tools in basement were the same. You could go blindfolded and find them.

Where did I go wrong with my own children. They were taught to put back, but in their adult life it's------ use it, leave it. I am now the maid/ picker upper! Maybe my dad had the right idea.

Every year I buy new gloves and hats for me and the kids. Mid-winter I do it again. Have no clue where they go. I also believe there is some creature who likes stealing the matching gloves and socks I buy.(I even buy socks in same color and then they don't match because it's a different brand) I am positive my creature laughs all the time when I run around the house looking for these things!
