I like the idea of a bi annual event. Colorado is expensive to to fromIreland as it's off the beaten track. So a bit more time to save up is a great idea. Hopefully by then I'd be able to attend.
You know, you guys who live in different countries could organize your own Kons and meet up with board members from your neck of the woods. That would be great fun!

Do we know what we're saving up for? A room in town? The Stanley? Are there any plans in motion at all that we know we're putting those pennies away for?
...well honey, not yet....I figured I had a couple of months before I had to climb back in the saddle....but from speaking with Deb913, it would behoove us to find accommodation outside of Estes Park...very pricey area, and The Stanley is quite expensive...but I will begin to help others to investigate lodging and a tour of the hotel after the holidays...I've done my time in the barrel, but will gladly help anyone from that area that would like to be the "point person"...

I remember there was talk of at least touring the Stanley, if not trying to reserve a banquet room/hall (whatever they call them there) for a group dinner. Does that sound right, GNTLGNT ?
...tour yes, reservation will depend on cost, and people to share same...because as stated-travel expense to those of us East of the Mississippi will be a huge consideration, but I am open to all suggestions atthis juncture...

Expensive ordinarily, but with a group rate? Is such a thing possible? Seems like something worth asking.

Could, but I'd much rather go to Colorado than Cornwall, Denver rather than Doncaster, Boulder rather than Bromley.
'Sides which, I've always fancied seeing the Rockies.
(And a room full of Brits? The ice would only get broken with 2 hours left to go. Americans are much better at that sort of thing, and it makes it easier for us to jump in.)

If I remember correctly, there were members of skemers (that old defunct site for Stephen King fans) that got together and were able to get group rates for the rooms at The Stanley. I remember seeing the pics that they posted showing the ballroom, staircase, room 217, etc. Such a beautiful place!!

...yes, they did...we met several of them at this Summer's Kon....however, given the rate of inflation-I'm sure it's a bit pricier now-I am willing to entertain it, I just don't want anyone to back out of coming because they're thinking "Dear God, I can't afford that!".....

I really liked how we ran the Bangor Kon (I wasn't able to attend Ohio). Specific events scheduled, different people were in charge of their stuff, random festivities arose, it was all very low key lots of helping hands and a great deal of fun. I really don't want to make this Colorado Kon sit on just one persons shoulders. When the time comes for 'actual planning' I think a committee with sub comittees could be created for volunteers.

In the interim for our 'roundtable of ideas' stage if I may suggest....

if you have an idea, look into it and gather up the info and share. For example, if you think the Stanley would be cool: contact the hotel, find out group rate requirements and fee schedule then share it with the group. If you find a cool 'ghost hunting tour' contact the people find out the lead time for reservations, cost, etc and share with the group. We can stockpile ideas and pick the best ones for the Kon.

We are such a diverse bunch. all with internet connections. I bet if everyone pitched in and presented their ideas with the information I bet we could be on the path to putting together a really fun event. Especially with the amount of time available to plan :)

Nobody left out. Perhaps people that have met up before would be willing to share rooms, convention style.

Would that have been the four girls who just popped up unexpectedly?

I also have another question, Scott - who was the girl who had to leave? Apparently she was a medical transcriptionist - just like me!

(It is a darn shame Andy and I missed the conference room meeting).
