I hadn't been following him through the US. Last year I did follow through Canada. Most people left him at places like Visitor Information Centres, sitting in front of stores, things like that.

They shouldn't have sent him across the border back east. He should've come west, young man.I hadn't been following him through the US. Last year I did follow through Canada. Most people left him at places like Visitor Information Centres, sitting in front of stores, things like that.
But then I got to thinking, before this happened, I hadn't heard of hitchBot, so if I did see him would I have even paid any attention to him? If I did, would I have REALLY picked up a weird robot sitting on a city street? The answer is probably no.
A lot of people wouldn't any more than they'd pick up unattended luggage in an airport! You used to be able to walk up and touch the Liberty Bell, now you can't. The Park Service probably gives a spiel about touching damaging the bell but the real reason is almost certainly fear that someone would stick something inside it sending bits of bell shrapnel all through the crowd!
Regarding the comments...most are the usual trolls. They are the same people that wish death on a child with a peanut allergy.
I admit, I did not expect Hitchbot to make it safely coast to coast in the US. Not because I hate Americans and not because I think they are all evil. But, as a country, so much of your history is violent. Your society is much more "me" based than Canada is.
Hitchbot required strangers to transport and take care of him. I do not view America as nurturing, and that is not to say that no American is. I think many are. But as one small Canadian who has occasionally needed help when dealing with American companies and phoning the CSR's....nurturing is not the word that comes to mind. When contacting Canadian companies, they have always been much easier to deal with and reach a satisfactory resolution, usually.
The chances of you talking to an American CSR are pretty slim anyway.MANY call centers are in foreign lands.Don't even get me started on trying to get phone support and not being able to understand a word that's being said.

The accent is different. Often when I call the Canadian number of a company I realize I'm talking to someone in the US.
And they are not all rude. I'm sorry if I sounded that way.
I know, i'm just waiting for the protest demonstrations..... Doomsday is near....... Anyway it would make a great book. And then the robots could actually feel hurt and starting to defend themself and the robotwar us and the robots break out. Cant you see it coming? Or is it my imagination?Ehm, Kurben, there might already be some companies using robots in production...
