Beautiful story, DK. Is it weird that it brought tears to my eyes?Funny little coincidence yesterday.
I brought home a new bird, a buddy for my current parakeet. I was watching the two birds get acquainted and thinking of what I should name the new guy. I have a tendency to think out loud--or talk to myself, if you like that better--and lately I've been directing my babble towards my son. He seems to like being included in my conversations, even though he can't join in or even understand what I'm saying. And I feel a little better having a visible person to talk to, instead of just answering the voices in my head all the time.
Anyway, as I'm tossing names out there, I came up with Raine. I said, "How about Raine? I like that name."
I wasn't even looking at my son as I said this; I was holding him on my left hip, and looking at the birdcage.
Now, I'm sure it must be complete coincidence, but what happened next was too sweet to ignore. My son reached up, put his little hands on either side of my face, and gave me a great big baby kiss. It was quite deliberate, and I felt like he was letting me know that he liked that name, too.
Needless to say, coincide or not, the bird's name is Raine now.

The other one's called Aldo?
I have a million and one stories of funny things my kids have said over the years.. especially when they were very young. But one of my favorites is of my oldest son. He is 28 now.. but back when he was around 3 years old we use to frequent this out in the boondocks video store. The owner new us well and would play with my son. In this store, there was a door that led to a naughty section for adult movies. My son would always ask about that door.. and I would tell him he couldn't go in there because " it would make him go blind". Well, one day while we were visiting this store there was a man who ever so slowly made his way to this door (he was trying so hard to be discreet) As soon as his hand hit that doorknob my son (in the loudest voice possible) yells out " DON'T GO IN THERE MISTER... YOU WILL GO BLIND!!!!) The owner literally fell on the floor laughing so hard he was crying.. I couldn't help but laugh as well.. but that poor man.. I have never seen a face turn that color of red! He couldn't leave the store fast enough.

A Dad Turned All The Ridiculous Things He Ends Up Saying To His Kids Into A Book
Oh come on..my face wasn't that red.....
My son is eleven years old. He's very bright like his mom, but he's very pre-occupied constantly. He talks fast, he runs wherever he goes even if it's from the living room to his bedroom. The other day a simple phone call to him turned into a "Who's on first?" conversation. He rides the bus home so he's home for around an hour and a half before either of us arrive home from work. He has chores to do, get the laundry going, grab the mail, etc. to set the stage for this conversation.
I called his cell phone at about 4pm to check to see if a package I had ordered from Amazon.com had shown up.
Me: "Hey bud, how'd school go today?"
Daniel: "Good."(distracted tone of voice, can tell he's already working on his chores in order to get done faster so he can get to his laptop)
Me: "Did I get a package in the mail today?"
Daniel: "Yep."
Me: "Who's it from?"
Daniel: "Umm, I don't know I wasn't here when it was delivered, I got home around 3:30."
Me: "......No, I mean WHO is the package from?"
Daniel: "I really don't know dad, I didn't see it get dropped off, it was already on the porch when I got off the bus." (no
wiseguy tone of voice or anything, I can tell he's answering honestly....)
Me(laughing): "No, genius, I mean who SENT me the package?"
Daniel: "OH!!!, ok, hold on....(sounds of running, I'm assuming heading toward the bar in the kitchen where we usually put packages).....you still there dad?"
Me: "Yep, still here."
Daniel: "The package was sent by.......FedEx it says."
Me(just shaking my head at this point): "Ok bud, thanks, I appreciate it.
Daniel: "Can you pick me up something to eat on the way home? I forgot to eat my lunch today and I'm starving."
Me(starting to re-consider my decision to let him stay home by himself after school this year): "Did you forget your lunch?"
Daniel: "No, I took it to school with me, but I forgot to eat it."
For a kid that makes straight A's in school it amazes me sometimes how he's able to make it through the day..lol Everyday is an adventure with him.
