I'm being very stingy with the last $13 of my ebook credit...I must have downloaded 2 dozen "free samples" in the past couple days.
I read the sample and if I actually care about how the story ends, I buy the book. So far, too cheap to care much.
I just started a sample of Michael Crichton's "Sphere" so we'll see how that goes.

I read Sphere. I read it too long ago to remember what it's about but I remember I liked it :)

Lest The Darkness Fall by L. Sprague de Camp. About an history interested guy who travel to Rome to visit a dig and there fall through a hole in time. He reappears in Rome in the year 535. The Goths are now masters over Italy. Rather amusing thoughtexperiment. It is considered a classic in the timetravel genre.

Funny you should mention that one. I read that book in high school for a class (I'm not sure what class it was). I found the old paperback a while back while I was digging through some old boxes and I put it aside with the intention of reading it again. I remember I liked it at the time but don't remember much about it.

New drinking game: get a bottle of yer favorite tipple, take down an Anne Rice novel (any one will do) and take a shot every time you read the word 'beautiful'. If you ain't s##t faced by the second chapter then SON, you're hard core.

Dang it, I remember loving The Witching Hour the first time I read it, but now I'm having trouble digging Anne's prose. Ye gods, she can't write a convincing male character to save her arse.

Feel like I should take off my shoes and put out my smoke every time I enter Anne's 'house'.

Done of John Grisham's Rogue Lawyer

Verdict : 8.7/10

Reasons on spoiler

PROS
-Plot wise, altho there are some that ended without resolution, i just love everything in this except to the Tadeo Zapate arc
-good execution on how lawyer moves, especially street lawyers.
-MC and POV, Sebastian Rudd was an amazing character. Because of this, my top 10 favorite fictional character men in books will have an update. His one of the Anti-Hero, Arch Swanger, was also a good anti-hero, he would also have a place in my top 10 Villains.
-well-balanced narration, seriousness was mixed with sarcasm and comedy. That makes the novel went up and down so I never get bored of this novel.
-the chapter where Rudd anihilate the SWAT (c3 : Warrior cops) was the best chapter there. That gives me a good vibes and happy feeling actually. I'm bit happy of this because of the SWAT mistake in the chapter of killing innocents resulted in an appopriate verdict.

CONS
-Tadeo Zapate's arc ending was b*llsh*t, Tadeo was dumb*ss for not accepting the plea. Not to mention his brother, Miguel, is also Dumb*ss
-cliff hanger ending of Sebastian and Judith's fight for the visitation rights of their kid, Starcher. The resolution of this was left unresolve, it just leave me with Starcher felt upset because Rudd did not visit him because he's busy. And Judith just said "i'll see you in the court". This is the reason why i'm wishing for a short story sequel because i want to see the resolution of this
-i'm not taking the Sebastian-Naomi shipping. Their romance was a filler actually, because Sebastian just need to make love and i feel like, this chapter was made for a fan service. Not to mention, altho Sebastian show some motive that he find Naomi attractive, their romance became a forced one, just like my issue in Bill and Janey's romance issue in Mr. Mercedes

NEUTRAL
-the ending was bit rush, but a decent and good ending. I'll take it.

Note : my rating may change, depend on my re-read in future :D

You could play the same game and risk alcohol poisoning by taking a shot every time you read the word 'shrugged' in the first Jack Reacher book (The Killing Floor). Jack shrugged everything in that damn book. I cringed every time I read it...nearly had cringe poisoning by chapter two.

Or you can do it with Uncle Stevie every time he mentions 'arc sodium' lights or people peeing they pants. Heh heh.

I'm reading Cold Moon Over Babylon by Michael McDowell. I really get dragged into McDowell's descriptive scenes. It's early here and its dark and I'm alone in the house and I got scared and I barely managed to claw my way out of Alabama so my heart could quit beating so fast. I think I'll wait until daylight before picking the book back up lol.

Thanks again y'all for suggesting McDowell :)

I finished reading Cold Moon Over Babylon. CMOB is the bestest gothic murder mystery ever written! (imho lol). While I was reading it, I wondered why it had never been made into a movie. I checked IMDb and it is being made into a movie! :) The movie is titled Cold Moon and will be released in October and two of my favorite actors are in it - Josh Stewart and Christopher Lloyd :)

Finished McCammon's Freedom of the Mask and loved it. Now to wait for the 7th installment. Haunted, have you finished it yet?

Started The Fireman last night even though Mr. King said to read End of Watch first. I'm saving that one. Reading Joe Hill is a lot like reading SK anyway. It comforts my soul to know he's on the earth and is writing.
