Keep in mind that you're relying on information that 'Joan' has relayed. She was quite good at altering the truth to her advantage.I'm starting to feel sad for Joan. At least Bette had a good mom.

I'm ready for season three, too. Oh, shoor...you betcha!Loved it! Thank goodness they ran a promo on Fox because I'd forgotten it was premiering on Sunday night. I was surprised that it was not bleeped. I mean, the F-word, the C-word, even! FX has been pushing the envelope with its dramas but, with this, they crumpled the thing and tossed it in the fire. Thank goodness. This also makes me look forward to the next installments of Fargo and AHS.
Speaking of this....does anyone know what the source material is for this show? Books? People? Made up for TV drama?Keep in mind that you're relying on information that 'Joan' has relayed. She was quite good at altering the truth to her advantage.
I KNEW you would love this!! (and yeah I'm totally stereotyping ) Glad you've gotten to see some of it!I binge-watched the first four episodes last night at my brother's house (his wife had recorded them). OMG!! This is a wonderful series! Sarandon and Lange are magnificent in their portrayals of Bette and Joan. I think that Lange has nailed her part more than Sarandon though. I think every actor is perfectly cast in this! Everyone! My prediction is that both leading ladies are going to be up for Emmy's. It's weird how life is imitating art, isn't it? So strange. Wouldn't it be crazy if twenty years from now there's a mini-series on the behind-the-scenes of this show? How crazy would that be? It certainly gave me a bigger insight into the how's and why's of what went into the making of the film. I hope this series wins tons of awards!
It's been well documented in books and magazines that this is what went on while they were making this film. Some of it may be embellished a bit, but most of it's right on target. Bette herself wrote about it in a book and discussed it on talk shows later in her career.Speaking of this....does anyone know what the source material is for this show? Books? People? Ann BancroftWho was that she accepted the oscar for? Vicious is right, HollyGolightly
Ann Bancroft
Yes, she was vicious, but, Bette lived something like 20??? years longer than Joan, so she had a lot of years to talk about her unchallenged.
Dana Jean has a thread going here about this, you might like to check it out...

She lived 12 years longer.
Burnt Offerings is one of my favorite cult films, I watch it all the time.Great pic HollyGolightly -- there she was in all her glory! Crawford was a limited actress, but hustled her hind end off. You have to respect her. She was apparently sweeter to her fans than she was to nearly anyone else. Bette Davis was an incredible talent, but certainly no saint. Her daughter wrote a negative tell-all book just like Crawford's did. Maybe just for the $$$, I dunno. I recently was reading about a horror movie I LOVE called Burnt Offerings (1979), And Davis was really ripping up Oliver Reed & Karen Black in interviews. Jezus, who could get mad at Karen Black?!! In her last film Whales of August (1987), the director (Lindsay Anderson) talked about what a tough shoot he had with Davis & Lillian Gish -- constantly going after each other. Lillian Gish, 15 yrs older was 93! You'd think Bette would have cut the old gal some slack. But no. He mentions they became nicer after Vincent Price began filming, as they both became quite smitten with him. That old pimp! Love that guy.
Joan working the silver
Burnt Offerings is one of my favorite cult films, I watch it all the time.
The thing that is so humorous about this film is, who pays an old couple 900 dollars to stay at their house, work your azz off to maintain the place, babysit a "mother" and thinks they got a great vacation deal?
Usually people pay you to do all the cleaning and home improvement. They pay you to babysit a child or elder. But no, the Rolfe's paid THEM for time in the country at a falling-apart-house.
I'd take that 900 and spend a couple nights in a super hotel that would cater to MY needs.
Burnt Offerings is in my DVR vault. I watch it all the time.grin willard I'd never thought of Vincent Price as particularly sexy, but that voice - swoon.
I've never watched Burnt Offerings - I should give that a go, eh? Dana Jean . After this ghastly month, I'm going to veg out on some heavy duty mind numbing TV.
Should I read the book? On a scale of The Stand to Twilight?Burnt Offerings is in my DVR vault. I watch it all the time.
If you read the book, it pretty much follows the book, word for word -- the ending is different in the movie. The ending in the book is a scene used earlier in the movie and then the director tacked on his own ending, which I actually like.
Hagsploitation is the name of the episode!Should I read the book? On a scale of The Stand to Twilight?
I can't remember if I watched all of the show last night. I might have fallen asleep, but I do recall the word. Or did I dream it? Cracked me right up.Hagsploitation!
