Well, being in the 90% of totality really didn't make a difference here. It got a little darker but not much. Not at all. Rather anticlimactic....

It is dusky here but no street lights are on, or any of my solar lights in the yard. Feels like it is getting brighter all of a sudden. Not night time dark, but dark enough the street lights came on. The sliver of light was still quite large. But it was really creepy feeling. Like just before dusk.
It's bright here now again. It was a very quick dusky moment and then gone.It is dusky here but no street lights are on, or any of my solar lights in the yard. Feels like it is getting brighter all of a sudden.
I was just reading that the demand eclipsed the supply for those special glasses here in Winnipeg (I love puns)It's bright here now again. It was a very quick dusky moment and then gone.

Congrats! A friend of mine in Florida who just retired also, said that the schools were keeping the kids longer for pick up to avoid the eclipse. They weren't even going to let them go out to see it just for the reason you just said. Some kid would take his glasses off and look at the sun.I just now got my viewing glasses. I started trying to find some a couple of weeks ago, but everyone was sold out here. Finally found a friend last night who had an extra pair, and I drove over to get them this morning. I also downloaded an app that tells me when it's safe to take off the glasses during the totality phase. Solar Eclipse Timer App
My school is having an eclipse party and got glasses for all the students. I haven't told you guys, but I retired this year! I miss being there with the kids, but the extra stuff was just bringing me down. I had my 30 years in, so decided to go for it. Anyway, I wouldn't want to be a first-grade teacher trying to make sure all those little ones have their glasses on at the right time. I'd be afraid one of them would melt his eyeballs by looking before it was safe. Even my middle-schoolers can't be counted on to not try to get attention by removing their glasses and taking a peek.
I'm very excited; the science teacher in me will always be excited about these type events!
Wow - I think you're awfully young looking to be a retiree - congratulations!I just now got my viewing glasses. I started trying to find some a couple of weeks ago, but everyone was sold out here. EAt with a spoon, or spend a night in the box.92% eclipsed here....starting to crave raw hamburger.....hmmmm
The totality was amazing! Nighttime dark, crickets chirping, frogs ribbeting, the black coin of the sun surrounded by the brilliant ring of light. Gorgeous. I did hear one bird say WTF, but he was shushed by a motherly cow.
Perfect! It got really dark here and then got lighter. (I did not have the glasses, so witnessed on line).
