The High Seas
20. The Farm House -- 2008 -- Steven Weber is in this. Pretty disturbing premise. Dying baby involved. Unsettling.

19. The Innocents --
1961 -- A great old standby for me. I can't NOT watch this. Perfect.
18. Big Driver -- 2014 -- Maria Bello. She did A brilliant job. She carried this story through to the end. Nicely done.
17. Let The Right One In -- 2008 -- I thought this was a very atmospheric and artistic vampire movie. And from the viewpoint of children and a focus on their friendship was brilliant.
16 -- The Revenge of Frankenstein -- 1958 -- Peter Cushing. Okay. Another one of those Frankenstein movies.
15. From a Whisper to a Scream (The Offspring) -- 1987 -- An anthology with Vincent Price and a host of other familiar character actor faces. Not bad.
14. The Strange and Deadly Occurence -- 1974 -- Robert Stack and Vera Miles. Yeah, a little bit creepy but nothing to get too excited about.
13. Nightmare In Wax -- 1969 --A familiar face in Cameron Mitchell. Reminiscent somewhat of House of Wax starring Vincent Price, this is an okay story. Changed just enough to make it different, but totally 60s cheese.
12. The Invitation --2003 -- Okay, this one is on Netflix. I understood the premise of the film. But, I'm thinking I dozed off or something. I just didn't think their secrets were that well revealed, connected and WTH? Someone watch this one and then come tell me exactly what was going on. A couple I could figure out, but a couple -- I'm still scratching my head.
11. Asylum -- 1972 -- Another in the anthology grouping. Pretty good.
10. House on Haunted Hill -- 1959 -- Vincent Price -- Old time standby movie. When that old lady comes gliding in with claws at the ready to scare that girl, man I laugh!
9. House of Evil -- 1978 -- Joanna Pettet and Richard Crenna star in this one. Not that great.
8. Creature from Black Lake -- 1976 --I have been looking for this movie for years! I couldn't remember the name nor could I remember much of the plot, but I kept googling different things -- well, I searched in youtube with different wordings and it would pull up movies and I would scan the list looking for this. And lo and behold, there it was, a still shot I recognized! I saw this when it first came out in the theaters with a friend and we were so scared! And of course, loved the pretty dark haired boy who plays one of the main characters. Rewatching it, oh man, not so great. Not horrible, but very b flicky. In checking out the two lead characters, both of them have died young. so sad. Jack Elam is in this -- such a great character actor. One of the best things about this movie is the one character's name -- Pawhoo. :smile2:
7. Dr. Terror's House of Horrors -- 1965 --This is another British anthology I like. Cushing, Donald Sutherland and familiar faces throughout.
6. Monster Club-- 1981-- not that great, but fun.
5. Vault of Horror -- 1973 -- One of my favorite of the old British groupings.
4. The House that Dripped Blood -- 1971 -- Staying true to the British anthologies. Enjoyed.
3. Torture Garden -- 1967 -- thanks for the heads up on this one skimom2 . I absolutely love old British anthology movies. I thought I'dd seen them all. Not the best in genre, but entertaining. Will be watching the house that dripped blood for tomorrow--another one I haven't seen!
2. John Dies In The End -- 2012 -- Very weird little movie.
1. The Legend of Hell House -- 1973 -- with Roddy McDowall. I don't think I need to say anything else.

Dana Jean , would you recommend The Farm House? I like Steven Weber, dying babies... no. But if the story is good, it can be worth it (Like The Orphanage. I cried a lot, but the story was so good that I'd watch it again)
Well, that's a poser. On one hand, it was interesting. And the dying baby situation is rough (although you don't actually see anything violent towards a baby, it's just the knowing that is tough.) Telling the dying baby part is a little bit of a spoiler, but I really felt that this needed to be upfront as it is disturbing. It's a very small spoiler though, as you figure out early that something has happened.

You might recognize the actress who plays Scarlet. Her and Steven carry the movie, and occasionally there is some stiff acting by supporting cast, but, yeah, I have definitely seen worse.

Sorry I'm being so wishy washy on this. I liked it as a horror movie, but it did have its burps.

24. Pit And The Pendulum (1961) Vincent Price

This is the second Poe film that Roger Corman did and it might be the best of the bunch. The movie is not faithful to the story but Richard Matheson wrote the screenplay and he did a fine job. The Poe stories are very short (Pit and the Pendulum is 12 or 13 pages) and in these Corman movies, you will usually see more than one story combined to make the movie which is the case here. 8/10

22. The Innkeepers
Hobbyist ghost hunters working in a soon-to-be-closed hotel run into the real deal. Ti West, master of slow-burn horror, wrote and directed this quirky little tale. The characters are funny slacker-types, but this is no stoner-comedy. When West wants to go for the throat, he does and succeeds. Very much a traditional haunted hotel story but without all the craggy gothic trappings, The Innkeepers is a series of tension builds and releases with the thinnest of plots, but it works very well anyway. Sound mix man Graham Reznick (I Can See You) has made a great mix here that will have you jumping. And that old guy up on the third floor? Let's just say you'll be seeing his face in your nightmares for a while after watching this movie.

4 out of 5 stars.

23. The Ghoul (1933) An Egyptologist returns from the dead to seek revenge on those who raided his tomb. Overall, the movie was pretty slow-- maybe "atmospheric" is a better way to describe it. But there were a couple of creepy moments, thanks to the close-ups of Boris Karloff, who played the ghoul.

29) Horror Hotel: Autumn Gust was right--this is a nifty little chiller. I'm very curious about the genesis of this film and Psycho, because there were scenes that were definitely reminiscent of that film. Thanks for the rec!

Where did you two see this? I looked on netflix and the dvd is not available and it wasn't available for streaming on netflix either.

I'll ask my son and get back to you in a while-- he and I are doing the marathon together and he's picking the movies we see. A lot of the old movies he watches are so old they are in the public domain; anyone can stream them for free. Other ones he buys from Amazon. I'll let you know!

12. The Others (2001)
11. Dark Water (2005)
- These were interesting to see back to back, which was entirely by chance. Dark Water is a movie about a newly separated mom and her 6 year old daughter who move into a shady apartment building. Mom catches the eye of a child ghost who wants her for her own. In the Others, Nicole Kidman is a young mother whose husband died in the war and is trying to protect her children from “The Intruders”. If you haven’t seen The Others, I won’t spoil the twist, but this is a well done movie. Since I saw them in order, I couldn’t help but make comparisons to the situations and resolutions. Interesting, happy coincidence!

The Others is one of my favorite creepy scary movies. I've not heard of Dark Water before, but now I'm going to look it up--thanks for the rec!

23. Event Horizon
Ghost ship story set in space, the Event Horizon spaceship comes back from interstellar travel with all hands on ship dead...or are they? Superbly done sci-fi horror starring Same Neil and Lawrence Fishburne, this one belongs right up there with classics such as Alien. And it's not afraid to be scary as hell.

4.5 out of 5 stars.
