22.) Dead Snow - Good nazizombie movie. Norwegian. Beautiful landscape. Best line is when one of the kids after things start going wrong says "I told you we should have gone to the beach". And they totally should!!! The version i saw was english speaking though the music was norwegian songs. I doubt it was the original voices of the actors.

23.) Eden Lake -- Kelly Reilly and Michael Fassbender. Now it is proven. Kids are not nice!!! Good movie about a couple that probably wish they had gone somewhere else for a romantic weekend.....

Fun thread. :) Love scary movies and learning about new ones.

I'm way behind but have watched a few:

Thinner - Pretty good little flick. I had watched years ago but I thought better of the film this time.

The House at the End of Time - This a foreign film from Venezuela. Not bad.

Ravenous - I head never even heard of this until recently. I was pleasantly surprised. I went into it expecting something totally different. It is a very quirky movie. I enjoyed it. Recommend.

19) Dead Silence (2007)-Ventriloquist dummies, ancient curses, some gore. This one was okay. If you're scared of those creepy dummies, it might get you. The makeup is scary, and the end is interesting--I didn't see it coming. The glimpse of the puppet from Saw made me smile. 3.5/5 (FTV)

I was thinking of throwing in a row of King features now. I am in the mood. And there are several i havent seen that did not get much theater time or good critics here.

24.) Silver Bullet (1985) -- With Gary Busey and Everett McGill. Adaption of Cycle of the werewolf. Havent seen it before but it was good fun. Liked it a lot.
25.) Pet Sematary (1989) -- I don't think the acting from the parents was great but Gage was creepy. The best one was Church!! Nice too finally see it. But it doesn't scare the pants off me or give me noghtmares like the book.

Guillermo del Toro makes the best-looking haunted house movie ever. Since this is such a new movie I'm not going to spoil many plot details, but if you've seen the previews you get the idea. Much will be made of del Toro's incredible visuals, justifiably so, but what also works well in this film is the murky, dark repressed atmosphere of the era. The acting performances are excellent and the ghosts are creepy and threatening. The only area it disappoints is that the human motivations and rationale are a bit too simplistic and generic--I was hoping for a little more originality and complexity there. Cinematically this is a 5 out of 5 star movie, but story-wise they played it too straight and safe. Still, this is del Toro at his best: lush, visual, atmospheric, and creepy.

4 out of 5 stars.

26.) Long Weekend (1978) - Australian. Beautiful landscapes. A kind of nature vs man thing but the male protogist was so unlikeable (what he said and did to his wife) that i cheered for nature to kill him the whole time. Dont think that was the intent.
27.) The Green Inferno (2013) -- Eli Roth. Better than Hostel but if you've seen Hostel you know that Roth always has the glows off. Not for all stomachs. Amazonas, Tribe that never seen civilizastion before and greedy forest companies are the components of this movie plus some idealistic, with hidden motives sometimes, anticompaniesfighters.

Just got home from seeing this. I agree almost 100% with FF's review. I was impressed with the visuals, of course, just gorgeous! I found myself thinking, "I could live here. A little paint, some repairs.... " I know it was all made in a film construction workshop but it looks like the real thing. All of the woodwork is just amazing. The word "lush" is justifiably used to describe this film and it suits.

The acting is stellar -- I'm a huge fan of both Tom Hiddleston (yum!) and Jessica Chastain -- and believable. Something one doesn't always find in a gothic horror film. I guessed the ending from the start but that was okay, I still enjoyed how it played out. Loved the ghosts but agree with what Hiddleston said in an interview I saw the other day, that it's a gothic tale that just happens to have ghosts. I give it a 4.5 out of 5. See it on the big screen to fully appreciate the beautiful cinematography and sets.
