Good Saturday evening.

I was trying to hold off posting but I'm going rat-crap crazy.

For the past six or seven mornings I wake up and my right ear is totally *clogged* up. I can't hear anything. After awhile (an hour?) my ear starts *popping* when I swallow and it clears up.

I have allergy problems and I have medication and I take it. Usually, if I have fluid in my inner ear I tend to get *sea sick* (nausea, dizziness) and I take a decongestant. (Although I'm not supposed to take a decongestant because I have high-blood pressure.)

Today I woke up and my ear was again clogged up. I waited for it to clear up but...nothing. It's clogged up and I cannot hear anything. All day.

I Googled and WEB,Md'd the he11 out of everything I could think of. No clue.

I have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday (routine BP check up) and I will ask him then but ...have mercy! Being deaf in one ear is driving me bonkers.

Any suggestions? Please?

(I won't hold anyone responsible for *misinformation* Ha!)

Peace.

OH! BTW - do hear a white noise..whooshing...noise in the clogged up ear.

It's actually fairly common for ears just to build up too much wax, which can clear out enough to make you think that things are okay, but then keep building until it's got the canal occluded, and it's not good to go rooting around in your ear canal with a Q-tip and put pressure on the eardrum.

There are ear irrigation kits in places like Walgreens or Rite Aid. Me, I went to the family doc, and he irrigated my ears. And it's kinda gross, but I couldn't believe how much goop got flushed out. And then I could hear. Yay.

After that happened, I learned what I guess I should've learned in grade school, and in the shower, I pull on my ear a bit to distort the surfaces and run water into my ears. Not soap, not dig at it, just run water. Haven't had a problem since.

That's my suggestion, anyway. Good luck, Sigs.

Hi Siggy,

Could you have an accumulation of ear wax? A friend of mine was having hearing problems and went to the doc. The Doc took out a big hunk o wax
and he is now able to hear well.

A girlfriend uses ear candles, swears by them.

My hubby likes hydrogen peroxide and a 'baby snot sucker'.

Me? I'm a q-tip after my daily shower girl. Don't usually have problems.
Good Luck..

Thank you.

If I could I would head out for the 24 hour drug store and get the ear wax things. (I'm a wuss. Try not to be out at night. Especially so late at night.)

I'll do it first thing tomorrow.

( Crud. If Leather face came at me tonight wielding his chainsaw...I wouldn't hear a thing!)

Thank you again.

Peace.

This is so NOT cool.

I'm in my den trying to a watch a movie and it just so happens the doorway is to my right. My deaf ear. If ANYTHING spooks me...I'm gonna start swinging.

(I should have started an Ear Wax thread. Ha!) (Boobs threads are much more fun. Ha, ha.)

(P.S. The PM message is much appreciated.)

Peace.

think I read somewhere, Siggy, that you could use an empty dish soap bottle like Dawn filled with warm water.. I'm not sure, I think if you look up ear irrigation online it could tell you..

Not sure exactly what you are referring to as "ear wax things" but since you mentioned allergies, I want to mention that Cerumenex (an ear wax remover) has peanut oil in it. (I think you meant environmental allergies, but if I didn't mention it and I was wrong I would feel so horrible.)

Also, Cerumenex should NOT be used with middle ear infection or perforated ear drum. And the pharmacists instructions scared me out of using it. (Scared before I knew I was allergic to it.)

Hope your hearing is back Sunday.

My ears mess up when my bp is real high... something to do with the additional pressure I guess. I have to quit eating stupid to fix them. It seems like every food I like is bad for bp :(

I hope your doctor finds the reason your ear is messing up and I hope its cured easily :) Let us know tomorrow :)

Ask your doc if he thinks using SwimEar after showers might help.

Years ago, a co-worker showed me how to drain all the sinuses in my head and fluid in my ears by applying pressure to certain places on my face. It might sound crazy but this method has worked for me about 80% of the time. It does take a few minutes to drain your sinuses but I think it's better than automatically turning to medication every time they get clogged. I won't attempt to describe how to do it here but if you look around a bit, you can find the info. on line. Now this wouldn't help you at all if the problem is ear wax! And if you suspect you have a sinus or ear infection, go to the doctor!
