Are there any gun control bills that would prevent lawful citizens, who have spouses or children who might not be so lawful but would have access to the gun, from buying guns?

I think you're right. Plus, I know I'm going to sound like an old foggy saying this, and I would have never thought it when I was younger but, I think some video games are also desensitizing people to violence...two officers dead while eating pizza, a shopper dead-just coz...and two "patriots" dead by their own hand....all the legislation in the world isn't going to curb gun violence or any other for that matter....to me, it's not only an issue of hate and mental illness, but one that combines endless factors like decay of morals, poor upbringing, desensitization to violence and it's aftermath, the rise in drug trade and fall in the economy...but mostly I think it's that the value of human life has become nill and I point the finger to the media for it's endless parade of tragedy for a large part in that...a new anti-gun bill won't stop a bullet or a blade...
...it's like I told my son when he joined the Army, remember-when you shoot here or get shot-there's no re-set button.....I think you're right. Plus, I know I'm going to sound like an old foggy saying this, and I would have never thought it when I was younger but, I think some video games are also desensitizing people to violence
You're a throwback to an earlier time, back when empathy was a virtue. It seems like every year there are fewer and fewer people with any empathy. When did being cruel become cool?I just participated in a fundraiser for a 13 year old player who was on our team and tried to take her life (not with a gun) because of bullying and other issues. She will have a long and hard recovery is she can even recover fully. I resigned as a coach. I can’t bear anymore to see the pain I see in some of these girls and try to be a positive influence in life’s attitudes and in teamwork, and then see something like this happen which hits home so hard. I still go to the games and practices and cheer them on, and laugh and joke with everyone, and tell them if they need to talk to someone about problems -- I’m here, but I need some time off. The suicide rate is rampant in our society, and we talk a lot about bullying, hatred, and mental illness... but nothing about it is ever done or accomplished except for talk. And it continues to grow. It always seems to be about guns guns guns... let’s face it, we can’t see the forest for the trees.
...all the legislation in the world isn't going to curb gun violence or any other for that matter....
...I don't disagree with what you're saying, and I've gone on record elsewhere with most of those same thoughts....but I can't see it happening anytime soon...Yes, it will. Curbing the violence starts one conversation, one enacted law, and one effort at a time. This is a gun-oriented country with provisions made for the right to bear arms in its constitution; ergo, gun violence prevention is not about uniforms showing up at someone's door and saying "Hi, we're the government. We're here to take away your firearms." It's about watching gun violence statistics decrease as parts of the problem are solved, one step at a time. Mental health access is just part of the puzzle, as are tougher background checks. Requiring private arms dealers to furnish background checks is another step. Stepping up law enforcement is another. Taking away American citizens' guns is *not* part of the equation.
Weeeellllll.......two officers dead while eating pizza, a shopper dead-just coz....
...story I saw did not mention he was armed, all the sadder coz he tried to do the right thing....I carry when and where it's legal as well, never knowing if I could be shot-but knowing I WOULD die trying to save myself, family or fellow shoppers...Weeeellllll....
The shopper is actually dead because he tried to pull his own gun on these two crazies.
I don't think he would have been killed if he hadn't had a gun, though. They were only after cops....story I saw did not mention he was armed, all the sadder coz he tried to do the right thing....I carry when and where it's legal as well, never knowing if I could be shot-but knowing I WOULD die trying to save myself, family or fellow shoppers...
...I understand that, but I still would have drawn down....I don't think he would have been killed if he hadn't had a gun, though. They were only after cops.
WTF??!? -I feel terrible for the victims' families.
This is just one of many, many valid reasons to push for stricter state laws that require more in-depth background checks for persons purchasing firearms.
Tragic example of pulling your firearm out before ascertaining who and how many targets you will be engaging. From what I've read, concealed weapon owner pulls iron with the intent of engaging male shooter and gets tunnel vision not realizing female shooter is in his blind spot, she then shoots him from behind. Having a firearm with you doesn't mean you're a police officer or that you suddenly inherit special forces skills with your weapon. I can understand concealed weapons owner wanting to help, and that is admirable, but if you don't have the proper training to go into a gun battle, save that weapon until you're cornered or you've had time to size up the situation. Mainly my concealed handgun is to keep someone's head down while I run away or seek better cover. I'm not looking to be a hero, just to survive and to protect my family from some a-hole's idea of "revenge" upon the masses.Weeeellllll....

I am changing your screen name (in my mind at least) - I think it should be "Gunslinger" rather than ghost19!Tragic example of pulling your firearm out before ascertaining who and how many targets you will be engaging.
