Wow. My rankings so much different!

1. Murder House
2. Hotel
3. Asylum
4. Roanoke
5. Freakshow
6. Coven
Aw DJ! Coven last?! You're killing me here! ;;D
I think a lot of people felt the same way about Coven. I just absolutely loved Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, and Jessica Lange that season. They were all just so...evil.

I'm thinking I need to watch it again. It's like the fan favorite. And I'm thinking I must have been multitasking or something while it was on.

I have been reading through this thread periodically and I'm very intrigued by this season. I will say that I have never watched AHS nor will I ever; I am just not into episodic TV. That said, if anyone would like to try to give a synopsis of this season without getting too wordy (under a Spolier tag of course), I'd love to hear what it was about. I tried reading through the Wikipedia entries for each episode but go so lost. I'm not asking for details; just a few sentences. Thanks!

Edit: I just reread this post and it makes me seem like a lazy bastard. I'm not! It's just that you all seem so stoked about this that I really just want to know what the big curve ball was!

I just glanced at the Wikipedia episode summaries and I got lost... and I've watched every episode lol.
Episodes 1 through 5.
A paranormal tv documentary follows a couple who have moved to an abandoned farmhouse. Scenes switch between interviews with the actual people who lived in the farmhouse and re-enactments performed by actors. Creepy stuff happens.

Episodes 6 through 9.
The documentary was a big success so the tv producers decide to air a follow up series. They bring all the real people and all the re-enactment actors together at the farmhouse. Creepy deadly stuff happens.

Episode 10.
Both tv series have ended (I think). I have no idea what will happen in the season finale tonight.

sorry... I am the pits at writing summaries lol

I absolutely LOVED this season(past tense because tonight it ends :( )
This put the horror back into American HORROR Story for me. I thought the concept was fantastic, the acting, the story. Some scary business going on in this! So many shocking things happened that were actual surprises. Looking forward to "the interview"
Just for fun: My personal rankings of the seasons so far....
1.Roanoke
2.Coven
3.Asylum
4.Murder House
5. Freakshow
6. Hotel
How would you guys stack 'em?

For me, I would take your list and flip it upside down. This season I found to be very "meh" compared to all the rest. For the first time in the history of the show, I found my attention waning and had to force myself to pay attention many times throughout most episodes. Coven was my next least favorite. Murder House and Hotel were definitely my favorites so far. I also haven't seen Freakshow yet but I think it's gonna be right up my alley.

Well, I appreciate the format in which this season was presented to us. Different. Interesting. Incorporating our world and technology today. The mindset of instant gratification and "reality" TV. But, having said this, this season was pretty weak story wise. JMO

Also, the rate that the characters were being killed off (seemingly one every 10 minutes) made me not only forget who was still alive and who wasn't from episode to episode....but it made me not really care one way or another. I didn't become invested in any character on this season. They all seemed disposable and not valuable to the story. No real drama involved.

I liked it! I did get tired of seeing so much of Sarah Paulson but Kathy Bates was crazy good :) I loved the premise. It was different. It was almost a spoof on all the different forms of news media... or maybe it was supposed to be a spoof?

and now for some minor criticisms lol...

I think AHS: Roanoak might be better as a binge watch. In episodes 6 through 9, I had to remind myself each week who the real people were and who the re-enactment people were.

I thought the story would've worked better without the Roanoak/Croatan tie-in. Did that seem contrived to y'all?

What happened to Matt Bomer? He was supposed to appear in this season. Did I miss catching him in a scene?

I finished this season. I did like it. I think the concept was a good one and I enjoy how different seasons give different actors a chance to showcase their craft. As I've said before, I've only been watching since Freakshow. At some point, I'll try to go back and pick up the first 3 seasons. Until then, I'll just wait to see what they come up with for next year!
