Those are wonderful.

People used to bring things to my mom and ask her if she could make one. If it was knit or crochet, she could make a pattern from a finished product.

I'm sitting here, and I can hear my mom laughing if someone brought her one of these to make. Thank you for that. :)

I do homemade ornaments for family each year. This year, I made cork angels.

I used to do an annual "christmas craft" and deliver it to everyone before xmas. Some of them took quite a lot of work, and then I saw how some family let them be torn up by kids or animals. I quit doing them. I figured why put all that work and money into something just to have it torn up with so little regard. Discouraging.

 I'm sorry to hear that. I give to a small group and it's become a tradition that we look forward to.

And those are great! I'm glad there are people in your family who cherish them. Well, I had some who did, but the ones who didn't crushed my spirit. And the fact that they let me see them totally trashed.... If someone gave me something they made, and it got torn up, I would make sure that they never knew so I wouldn't hurt their feelings.

Over the years I have found there are those who will treasure hand made crafts, and those who think nothing more of them. I think some forget the love and care not counting time that goes into making a handcrafted item.

The stockings that I make are a tradition my sister started. She made them for her daughter and all the kids of that generation. I took it over and started making them for the next generation. But one member of the family I don't make them for. The first two that family got from my sister were tossed to the back of the tree the first year. And never got put up after that. (Every stocking is unique...which meant they didn't match the decorations.)

Meanwhile, the first one I got, I had to call my sister after a few years to ask if I could put it through the washing machine. They are the stockings Santa fills....and he put chocolate in them....and some melted chocolate was on the front. I felt horrible but using them does pose risk. She was not upset with me. She was upset about the stocking tossed to the back and never used again.

Exactly. There is a difference. You were using yours, as it was meant to be used. Just being tossed aside -- that is what hurts my heart.

...I'm not Pepperidge Farm, but I remember....my Grandmother made ornaments years ago, and I still hang them on my tree when we do an "adult" as opposed to a "kid" tree.....
