Not a fan of Stephen Colbert( I fast forwarded to the interview).I thought Mr.King was a cool customer.Very smooth! He always seems very laid back whenever I see him on TV.I have always thought of him as pretty funny myself. Most of the time, I find something to chuckle about when reading his books.
Kind of off topic but did any of you watch when Seth Meyers interviewed him? It is so great as Seth is a huge fan and wasn't afraid to say so:)

GNT, you are correct. I can understand most not agreeing on this. I am glad that others enjoyed it even though I did not. Sometimes when I don't enjoy something, I feel embarrassed for it -- a good example is Insomnia, I really felt that wasn't such a great book; yet, I always feel good when I find someone who liked the book, because then I feel that at least someone found value in it and could see what I couldn't see.

On the Trump joke: at first I wasn't sure who they were referring to, but then I did realize. DiO'Bolic's twist on that made me laugh, though. Actually, that should have been the punch line to the actual joke -- they should have said at the end they meant her. (I wonder if that was a planned routine.)

In reference to another comment: as far as I know, he is not doing the Colbert-conservative thing any longer, but honestly, it seems as if he still at least has allowed the voice and demeanor of that character to remain intact, which makes things very confusing. Although, I really didn't watch his other show, so perhaps someone who has might argue that he actually is different and this is simply the real him. Hard for me to figure out, to be honest. I wish him well in his show, but I truly hope he becomes more like Letterman in terms of interviewing top guests like King and, say, someone like Bill Gates (imagine him being silly with someone like the latter; that would be a waste of time).

I loved the stack of books as well. An entertaining visualization of his literary activity.

I enjoyed his subtle backhanded slap at Hillary Clinton as the demonic blondish character trying to take all your money away. :)
I was going to post that I thought you might be mistaken, but I see sisterwife has already put you right again. Nice try!

So - a stack of books six and a half feet tall? Pretty nice! Loved that interview and he was excellent on it - I honestly have to disagree with the OP, although of course he is entitled to his opinion. Nothing wrong with a bit of levity and good humour, I say!
:clap::chicken:
I think if you stacked all of his books, it would be way taller than that. I've not got all of them and I think my stack is almost 6'. Maybe kingricefan or king family fan could stack their's and tell us the size of the tower.

I liked the interview. Colbert was no where near as annoying as I thought he'd be. And Stephen King was magnificent!

Rrty, you seem like an intelligent, honest, polite person.
Don't be embarrassed for having a feeling or opinion someone else doesn't share.
When that happens to me, I feel glad to be different and not a cookie-cutter person like everyone else.
I find that, most of the time, I feel different than most people on issues, and I like it that way. :)

The appearances are wearing on him . . .as he passed Colbert's desk last night he slightly touched it for support, I've watched a lot of his interviews over the years and I've never seen him do that. He is drained right about now.

He's lost way too much weight . . .

We love you Stephen . . .very much.

GNTLGNT . . .Giant did you catch the Flava shoutout? I thought of you . . .
...I did, and I'm fretting about him too....the nurse in me perked right up with the "touch" on the desk....he's very drawn...

I didn't enjoy King's appearance on Colbert's show. It wasn't the fault of either party, I think it was just the nature of the forum. Colbert has to be funny, and then he has to force King to try to be funny, and King really isn't a comedian. I would have rather seen King on something like Charlie Rose instead of Colbert.

It was too short, the questions were the usual suspects, etc. Of course, you could say this about a lot of King interviews, I suppose. I wish we could get some really good questions. What is the last thing you worked on that you stopped working on -- what would have been the name of the project? Is self-publishing making the industry worse or better?

A note on Colbert: I never watched his other show, but he appears to be an annoying interviewer (from that point of view, I suppose my disappointment with the interview was the fault of Colbert, but in a sense, I still won't blame him because at that point the template was set, and he has to do what he has to do to be consistent). If anyone caught the Scarlett Johansson interview, you surely would have noticed when she told him to stop, because he seems to do this thing where he constantly interrupts to inject some humor into the conversation. He seems to want the density of humor to be high. His interview with Bush was awful, no insights at all. I'm only somewhat familiar with his other character, but it seems as if he might be doing the same thing.

He needs to be more serious, and to get the most out of his guests. I get the impression he wants to book more guests like Elon Musk, but if he is going to talk to interesting people like that, drop the funny stuff and ask some interesting questions. Why wasn't King asked about the solemnity of the day, for instance? (I don't remember that he was asked about that, anyway.)
Now, I just watched the interview. I liked it. I get your point about the solmenity of the day, but it's ok to do a light hearted interview as well.

Wow, interesting comments. I agreed with the "short" comment. It was short. Seemed like being such an influence on everyone deserved more? ( He did get a medal from Obama the day before and well deserved.) SK seemed more amiable than I remember from previous interviews. This one seemed light hearted and on the funnier side. Funny how the political comments were played out. I don't think he does many interviews, right? Anyway, I guess SK wanted to do the appearance and that is good enough for me. It was good to see him and I enjoyed it. I liked his comment that he would keep writing as long as people enjoyed it. He looked good and looked like he was having fun. I think he was lying though when he said he still gets scared... Hehehe!

I think he did the interview for his fans and I appreciate it.

I dunno about Colbert not being a good interviewer. His interview with Joe Biden was by far the best interview I've seen on television in a long time. He's still finding his footing as a "serious" talk show host, though. Testing the waters as it were. Just has to work out the kinks, I guess. But I get that some aren't fans of his. I really wasn't a fan of Letterman so I appreciate the change.

I enjoyed the interview with King. I wasn't really expecting anything too deep. A little more depth would have been nice, but some levity is nice, too.
