First up, the black tissue wreath that will greet visitors as they arrive. Do click the thumbnail so you can see the details, which include a creepy raven and some silver rubber snakes.

poe wreath.jpg

Construction: I made the wreath form from cardboard, plastic grocery bags, plastic wrap, and duct tape. The tissue part is double-sided tape and (duh) black tissue paper, pressed on using a small glass bottle top as a kind of form/stamp. The bird and snakes I got from Dollar Tree, and I painted the snakes silver with spray paint. Total cost: est. less than five bucks. A dollar each for the bird and snakes, two bucks for the tissue paper, and probably less than a buck for the amount of duct tape and paint and plastic wrap I used.

This year, I decided to throw our first ever Halloween party, coming up Saturday (three days!). It'll be small but hopefully freaktastic. Although being broke blows chunks, I have to admit that it has paid some pretty great dividends: I've been forced to find the ends of my creativity when coming up with decor. As it turns out, my creativity doesn't seem to have any end. Yay!

Anyway, I wanted to start a thread where we could share our Halloween decor, whether purchased or homemade, as well as ideas. I'm going to post what I have so far, plus as I go along (hoping to have the bulk finished by tonight), but I'd love to see what other people do/have done, because I'm always up for a last-minute change to my plans. (ADD FTW!) Maybe we can all get some good ideas.
I'm just going to move your posts into an existing Halloween decorations (etc) thread, Todash.

Oh, that hot dog thing is disgusting. (I approve of disgusting.) I am considering doing the eyes, but since we're in an apartment, I'd have to hide them in dark corners inside. Which shouldn't be hard. I wonder how long those glow sticks last.

My daughter loves glow sticks. She keeps them in the freezer until time to use them, and they seem to last longer. She had some that glowed all night on July 4th

This is the thing I have affectionately named Skelespider. It stands about 16" tall and is my favorite so far. Sorry for the blurry pic. My phone takes horrible pictures, and I am too lazy to get out the real camera.

Construction: Cheesy bobblehead skull from Dollar Tree that I pulled apart. Wire hangers. Hot glue. Black spray paint. Total cost: less than two bucks. Total impact: creepy as feck.

Last weekend, one of my neighbors dug a whole and put old red Celica into it, giving the appearance that the car came crashing into his field like a comet hitting the earth. And the extra detail he did with the ground really made the crash effect look realistic. I laugh every time I see it -- with the cows and horses walking around it, and the big pig that now likes to sleep under the rear of the car is hilarious. I wonder if he’ll add a couple of dummies laying on the ground around it this weekend. That would sure turn some heads.

I love this! It reminds me of the walking spider head from The Thing.

You're very creative, Todash.

Thanks. I have ideas. It's better if I let them out. :D

Seriously ... one thing for which I am genuinely grateful: this rather protracted period I have had of financial difficulties has taught me that to "make do" isn't a curse. It's a gift. Resources are always limited; the imagination is not. To be restrained in materials, I think, teaches the most creativity.

After I clean up around here (last night's party went pretty well, and I'm writing today), I'll post some more pics. :)
