I am happy today because I was able to read like the old me. The last year, I've had trouble reading--focusing, concentrating, enjoying the act of reading. I've always read at least 30-40 books a year, usually having a fiction and nonfiction going at the same time. This year, I've finished ONE book. Very frustrating, as you can imagine.
Then, this week, I decided to watch two King movies with my son to try to get him interested...The Shawshank Redemption and Misery, both of which he loved. After we watched Misery, I showed him my old beat up novel which I last read about 12 years ago. When he went back to his video games, I opened the book up and began reading. I couldn't stop. I read and read and read and finished it in two days. I felt like a part of me, which had been missingwas reattached and back to normal.(a foot, perhaps? )
So I guess I owe another thank you to Mr. King for helping me read like my old self again. Gerald's Game (my favorite King novel) is in my carry-on bag for my flight today! I'm happy about reading and happy about going to see someone I've not seen for a while!
Good thing you didn't bring The Langoliers to read on your flight.......
