This New York prison break story has some aspects that seem very strange to me. Here is my main issue that I don't believe:

I keep hearing about this lady that was helping the prisoners by giving them hacksaw blades. Take a look at this photo. There is no way someone used hacksaw blades to cut that pipe. It looks like a cutting wheel cut to me (also notice there is an extension cord in the photo). Using a cutting wheel to cut a pipe this thick would make a hell of a noise. Apparently, this was done in the middle of the night. How was it that all this noise was not heard?

I think there was a lot more help than from 1 person.
And a Saw-Z-All, well that's what I'd order outta the Pokey Popper Spring Catalog:encouragement:....hope they remembered, safety first:nerd:

They ever catch 'em...I think they have a case against the State. Looks like raw and unfettered asbestos. I hope this pic doesn't color the jury that will hear the case. Who you going to call? Probably that team that took on the Tobacco Industry and gave them what for.

Judging from how old the prison is, I'd say these guys encountered asbestos. I hope the state issued them the proper respirators for this job. ;-D

I remember when I was in school, the US converting to the metric system was eminent. Now 35+ years later, I wonder what happened? Here is an interesting history of the attempts at going metric in the US

America's only metric road

I remember teachers telling us that when we were adults everything would be in metric and no one would remember inches and feet. Good thing that never happened, I still have to Google conversions all the time.

I remember that. It would be kind of nice to use the metric system, just because we're one of the very few places that doesn't. But I have to admit that the conversion won't be easy if when it happens. I know a little of it, but only because it was made relevant to me for a while.

Everyone here knows my oldest was a preemie. In the NICU, everything is measured using kilograms and Celsius, which took some getting used to!

When Anya was born, they ran off with her to do all the critical baby stuff. Someone came back in a few minutes and told me a bunch of statistics, including blah blah something something 681 grams. The h€ll? I was having the worst day of my life, pumped full of drugs, and now they were telling me information that hooked up to absolutely nothing in my brain.

681 grams could mean 8 pounds, or it could equal 27 deutschmarks, or maybe 1 field goal and a free throw from the foul line.

I said, and this is a quote, "What does that mean in American?" The answer is one pound, eight ounces.

And in Celsius, you want your temperature around 37 degrees. I learned more vs. cc vs. tsp too, but only because I needed it to measure Anya's medication. So, all that stuff was important for my kid's care. If all the speed limit signs changed kilometers tomorrow, it would take a while to catch up!

I initially skimmed that story about the dogs and thought it said Depp was being quarantined. And I thought it's about time!!

Yeah, he always looks smelly. I know people love him, but he seems filthy every time he appears in public. :(

We already use so much of it, I don't think it would be too big of a problem. And being that it's a system based on 10 instead of 12, it's not too hard to learn. I'm really surprised as global as our products are that it hasn't just happened naturally. It seems kind of strange that companies would waste money making products with two different sets of measurement. One place that I think would give us an issue would be land. The plots of land are already divided up and I'm not sure what kind of weird decimal equivalent we would get for an acre. I'm not even sure what you call a unit of land in metric speak. ;-D

I work with measurements every day, feet, inches, fractions of inches. I don't see the construction industry changing anytime soon. How long is a stud? ninety-two and five eighths. How wide is a 2x4? 3.5 A 2x6? 5.5 Talking inches, but they can be expressed as decimal points, too. How often does Giant have to duck to walk through a door? Allatime. Poor guy! :( I wonder how many times he's hit his head? Boink! How big is a square? 10x10. Feet. Ten feet by ten feet. What numbers do you mark on the tape if you want to chalk lines for every row of shingles? twos and sevens. Why would the metric be better? Or easier? We get by.

The stripper booth sliding door just came down slowly over my eyes as soon as you said "system based on 10 instead of 12."
