I finally got around to watching The Butler. I found it on bluray months ago at Half Price Books on their clearance rack. Think I paid $2.99 for it. It was good, but I didn't think it was a great movie. Oprah was rather funny in it, she seemed to be enjoying herself in her scenes. Forest Whitaker was fantastic, but I never expect anything less from him. I'd give it a B.

Does a concert count as a movie?

CREED!!! :thumbs_up::thumbs_up:

Humongous "Rocky" fan here, I've anticipated this movie for sooooo long...and I bloody loved it! Sure it was cliched, and predictable, but isn't that what Rocky is all about? The new writers/directors are bringing the franchise to a whole new generation and I applaud that because the legend of Rocky should never die! Anyhoo, I need to go start my petition now demanding Sly wins the "Best Supporting Actor" Oscar because he deserves it for not only taking a step back in a franchise he created and letting a new star shine, but he also made "elderly" Rocky seem real...bravo. :love:

This movie is available to stream on Netflix (last time I checked anyway). Just haven't felt compelled to watch it. I agree, Forest Whitaker is always fantastic! :)

Whew, Frank Sinatra double feature, GUYS AND DOLLS, and PAL JOEY. Who's cooler than ol blue eyes? Nobody, doll--remember that. Scrawny little guy hookin up with all those dynamite, stacked broads (although, Kim Novak kinda looks like a transvestite, and by '57 Rita Hayworth looked like she'd done a nickel in Shawshank) but that's why the lady is a traaaaamp!

Pack a small bag...

I know this is supposed to be a great classic and all but meh. It's decent but its a full fledged propaganda film. I'm just not a big fan of the propaganda films. From what I read, the hope was for this film to help sway public opinion of the still-neutral, reluctant Americans. Lawrence Olivier goes a little overboard (maybe a lot overboard ;-D) with his French-Canadian accent.

Christmas With The Coopers - multi-thread feelgood Christmas movie, a bit glib but likeable
Sanjay's Superteam - Pixar support short: annoyingly PC, good 3D
The Good Dinosaur - good looking Pixar feature, no depth to it
Victor Frankenstein - played straight, except for James McAvoy having HUGE fun

I've seen a couple of adds for the new Point Break. Why have they remade that? It's not that old and is widely available.

Plus, how could they possibly do justice to Gary Busey's performance? Maybe they just remade the rest of the movie and inserted Gary Busey's parts from the previous movie. ;-D
Yeah...I saw my first preview on Thanksgiving and my reaction was No. Just no. :thumbs_down:

Brandon is 23 and told me most of his friends didn't even realize it was a remake. :(

Lately I've been working through RIVER on Netflix (Excellent series--Stellan Skarsgard is a favorite of mine), but I watched Jackpot the other day. Scandinavian film about four guys who win big in the lottery and what happens to each of them. Gory as heck, but VERY funny. I like Swedish/Norwegian/Danish action thrillers quite a lot :)
