I've watched Interstellar several times. It's one of those movies where you notice something different every time you watch it. I still don't have it figured out. The whole concept of the time difference as they got closer to the black hole was fascinating but makes my head hurt trying to figure it out...lol. A very good movie.

....but you done gooder with this here DIY project......

It might be i think Nolan has a tendency to get a bit to clever for his own good in his movies. I also never really liked the actor playing the pilot . I think your husbands theory has merit.....
Oh my, neither do I! This is the first thing I've liked with him in YEARS. (BTW, I'm calling him 'the pilot' because I can't spell his name--lol)

Watched Deadpool last night - quite good! I'll have to watch it again to get all the little quips of dialogue - it's pretty fast paced.

It's become one of my top ten films of all time. I could watch the intro sequence over and over, it's hilarious...

There's just something funny about watching complete carnage with Juice Newton's "Angel Of The Morning" playing softly in the background...lol

And DP's fondness for Wham and George Michael. Just some off the wall silliness.

my daughter and I loved this movie, but she pointed out something the other night I didn't see until then.

dr house is Deadpool !

after she said that, I saw the uncanny resemblance in the humour. apart from the dick jokes of course

last night was 'fantastic Beasts'

i was looking forward to it, but I realised something was missing from the start. I don't know what it was, the dreary scenery, the long silent pauses, the CGI and lack of actors playing the gringots gremlins?? The creepy kid actors maybe??? I dunno, it just felt- well, limp
stunning set pieces, great effects, a cute critters. But
not enough nostalgic feel to it. a bit underwhelming really. a few name drops, was all we got. the kids will enjoy the critters, but I felt I was watching a dodgy British attempt at a episode of Dr who an the Magician in Manhatten

I tend to think that if you can't figure it out after a number of viewings then it hasn't told its story very well, and I suggest that means that perhaps it isn't a very good movie after all. Maybe. I'm one of those who tends to think that Nolan can be a bit of a cleverd*ck (although I loved Inception).

Inception was very good also. I understood that one the first time thru and was impressed with the plot. I think Interstellar tells a good story but I'm just not real bright so that one may be "operator error". Lol

Burnt Offerings (1976) Burnt Offerings (1976) - IMDb

I HIGHLY recommend this to any King fan. In fact, he included it in his list of movies in Danse Macabre. I'm surpised it is not more well known and isn't usually named as one of the classics in the horror genre, but I think it is.

It came out only a couple of months before The Shining (the novel) came out and in many ways it feels like a precursor. There is a family with a young son taking care of a large property (here it is for a summer, not a winter), the property influences them and takes them over and starts to change their behaviour/character. Even abuse of the son becomes a topic just as in The Shining. And you have to wonder if Kubrick lifted the end shot of the photograph in The Shining straight from this

It just came out here on blu-ray with loads of extras. There is a great commentary by the director Dan Curtis (best known for Dark Shadows), the writer William Nolan and actress Karen Black. The three of them also worked on Trilogy of Terror, which I think is better known than this. Black got typecast for horror because of that, even though it never was her wish to become a 'horror-actress'.

This is one of the best horrorfilms of the seventies, in my opinion, but it seems not to be noted so much. It may be a little slow moving for today's audience, but the psychological tension and overall mood are terrific.

I've never seen this one. I'll have to check this out. Thanks.

You definitely should! Also proves my point it is not very well known. Actually the only way I found out about it, is that Stephen mentioned it in Danse Macabre! Then I first saw it on German tv, but synchronized in German which is not ideal.

The blu-ray is from Arrow Video. Burnt Offerings | Arrow Films
But it is region B/2, so for Europe.
Arrow is a superb distributor. They include a lot of extras, and nice newly created posters, booklets with academic writing often very interesting. I buy a lot from them.

Burnt Offerings is not the best looking of their releases though. It didn't have that sharpness of blu-ray, but possibly it has to do with the way it was filmed. Seventies horrorfilms often have a sort of 'foggy' look. I think they do this with fog filters, Curtis says something like that on the audiotrack, and vaseline on the lenses. Maybe this prevents the sharpness of blu-ray to come to the fore.
I LOVE the look of seventies horrorfilms, films like this or the original Salem's Lot. They're often a little soft focused with a lot of light reflecting from surfaces.

There were definitely some great horror movies made in the 70's. Not as much CGI back then so the story had to be solid in order to make it successful. It's a trend sorely lacking nowadays. The Amityville Horror, Halloween, The Omen...the list goes on and on. I'll find Burnt Offerings on Amazon or somewhere and see if its available.

watched The Impossible with Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. Also saw The Wave, Norwegian disater movie. If you liked the Impossible or disaster movies in general i can recommend this. It is about what would happen to the small coastal villages along the fjords if there was a landslide. Something all geological experts says are bound to happen sooner or later because how the mountains are on both sides.
