A Street Cat Named Bob - true-life story: busker junkie escapes with the help of ginger tom: DON'T see it in a cinema full of cat lovers, they keep going "Aaaah" all the way through
Arrival - Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner have to translate aliens who communicate in coffee cup stains, thoughtful, but not as clever as it (and some viewers/critics) thinks it is
The Accountant - Ben Affleck as autistic super-accountant: sounds silly, but it's pretty good

Just watched Georgy Girl from the 60s (black and white with James Mason) - very good film and quite funny - Lynn Redgrave gives a good performance as well.

Just saw the utterly charming and hard to place movie 8 Women. It is a successful mix of black comedy, drama, Agatha Christie mystery and musical. The leading french actresses in the roles. Not a single male role in the movie (except as corpse). Both the old generation with Catherine Denueve, Isabelle Huppert and Fanny Ardant but also the younger ones like Emmanuelle Beart, Ludovine Sagnier and Virginie Ledoyen. Directed by Francois Ozon. Very good. Never actually seen a similar movie. But it is not actually feelgood but it is darn good. Made in 2008.

Under your bed
Bed of Roses (1933). Constance Bennett and her buddy are a pair of sexy ex-cons making their way down the Mississippi River by sending foolish men up the river, if you catch my vernacular, see? A rather saucy pre-code talkie that also features Joel McCrea as the lucky bastard Connie eventually falls in love with. Didn't change my life or nothing, but, grrrrr, anything with Constance Bennett in it is worth my time. Oh yeah.

Thirteen Ghosts - rhe remake. LilMan ' s sisters were teasing him because he likes this movie, so I watched it with him. I like the Castle original better, but it was all right.

Then we watched Monkey Shines. Haven't seen it in years and totally forgot about the sex scene about 2/3 of the way through -lol. That was uncomfortable, but all in all we both liked it.

History of the World Part I--In certain parts, wildly inappropriate for a 10 year old, but there you have it. I think I wasn't much older the first time I saw this; apparently being a careless parent is genetic :) Made us all laugh.

Dr. Strange.
The move was okay (honestly, the CGI and the 3D glasses made me nauseated). The conceptual stuff (originally from the comic, I imagine) was pretty awesome. Kind of one of those movies where you are saying the lines before the characters do.

just got to wait for the bloopers reel now - should be funny.

now - I urge anyone who thinks The Arrival is going to be a fine sci fi flick to avoid it if they have seen the following movies:

the day the earth stood still
mist
abyss
melancholia - like borrrring!
butterfly effect 2/3
Prometheus (effects 101)

if you haven't seen the above movies- shame on you... except melancholia - shame on you for watching.

it's ok, don't get me wrong, it's just a bit like watching a chic flick like the lake house and someone sci fi 'd it up a bit. then mashed in moody music and confused is with McConaughies interstellar theory !

Excuse me while I search Google for (what I hope isn't Mathew McConaughey)'s theory - if that's the case, it should involve naked bongo playing) . . .
