Last movie I watched was Ender's Game. Real disappointment in comparison to the book, felt too watered-down and compressed, could've used another half an hour of run time to flush things out a bit more.

Really?

I though it was great, all they key points squeezed into 90minutes - as best they could. Even had Bean there, ready for the parallel story next year.(PLEAZE)

and then there is "Lego my Eggo" ;):haha:

I might just go out with son and GF after all @Neil W - thanks for that review above - you should be a film critic!

(Did you take Film Studies in University by any chance?) A friend of mine took that at Queen's University in Kingston and he enjoyed it a lot.
Oh yum - mayhap I'll give that a try for Lent dinner tonight.

Toy Story 3.

Have any of you seen this? It is so good. Lots of references to adult movies and such (nothing inappropriate)--for instance, Buzz patrols a group of toys and reads them a list of infractions that will bring them "a night in the box" referring to Cool Hand Luke. That's just an example.

A clanging monkey is "the eye in the sky" at a daycare where there is a group of older toys who enslave new toys and banish them to "The Caterpillar Room," the part of the daycare where the children are too young and don't respect toys or know how to play with them properly.

It is so cute.
Oh my God. I'm at the part where Barbie is distracting Ken (a henchman for the bad guys) so Woody can rescue Andy's toys. She's having him model his extensive wardrobe in the Dreamhouse. He's modeling to Le Freak! Cute, cute, cute

I saw this weird thing where it looked like they had made a grilled cheese sandwich using waffles (I think) - I'll see if I can find a picture for you HollyGolightly

I have a waffle maker that makes finger sized waffles that you can dip in jam or maple syrup (or liquid honey)

Sadako 3D 2. Japanese continuation of The Ring. Being a huge fan of The Ring, I could not miss this movie. Honestly, I am glad they continue the series and developed the plot further, as even the video tapes are not being used now. I liked the first Sadako 3D better, that's what I can say for sure, this part is not as good... But still okay, the main thing they continue telling stories about Sadako, I like it.

I introduced LilMan to DUNE :) It's a good exercise in 'what if you hadn't read the book'? I was sat there, worrying about the tremendous amount of material that was left out of the story, thinking, "Meh. It's okay. Could be done so much better." and when it was over Nick leaned over with shining eyes and said, "THAT WAS AWESOME! Can we watch it again?!"

Guess it wasn't quite as bad as I thought :)

Are you watching the David Lynch version? And, if so, is it the over-three-hour one that has all of the cut scenes put back in?

I read the book and hated the movie (especially the way it ended - that was just wrong) but I know people that haven't read the book and love the movie. I can't understand that because having read the book, I kept thinking while I was watching the movie that no one could possibly understand what was going on without knowledge of the book. I guess I was wrong about that.

I'm one that believes that movies need to be different than the book to work but Dune was just a screwed up mess.

I'm pretty lukewarm toward it-- there re things that I thought were done okay, and a whole lot of mess. It was on a whim that I started it for Nick (he's 8), and he really loved it. The main thing he needed explained was the Guild members. Other than that, he followed the story (what of it there was) very well :)

I watched Mommie Dearest on Netflix over the weekend. Pretty intense. I think Faye Dunaway has actually improved with age. She gave a gut-wrenching performance-she is an amazing actress.
'No wire hangers ..... EVER!!!!!' and 'Don't f*ck with me, fellas!' Mommie Dearest has some of the best and campiest lines ever. That movie nearly ruined Faye Dunaway's career as it was given such bad reviews when released. That's what happens when you have a first time director. She really does seem to get better with age, doesn't she. (wish I could say the same thing!)
