Just so-so. I usually love stuff like this but this one just seemed a little off. It's a tale of Earth in 2150 and the planet is over populated and diseased. The wealthy people have built living quarters in space and left everyone else on Earth to suffer. I think the filmmakers were trying to make a statement about immigration, health care and status but never seemed to hit the mark. Not bad but disappointing because it coulda been a contenda.

I watched Gravity last night. It was decent. Probably would have been better to see it on the big screen rather than my 39" flat screen. Sandra Bullock did a good job, but I would've been alittle upset if she had won the Oscar for Best Actress. She was pretty much playing the likable character that she always seems to play. She did carry the movie. Is it just me or did she not look like herself in this film? Great special effects- there were times when I felt like I was out there with her lost in space.....

She looked nothing like herself . . .and I agree, good movie but not Oscar stuff.

Alive (1993) Ethan Hawke

Based on the gruesome real life story of a Uruguayan rugby team that crashes in the Andes. They are given up for dead and must survive for 70 days in harsh conditions with no food or supplies.

This is my second time seeing this as I saw this way back when it was originally released. The story is incredible and the movie is good but the movie does have a few weird flaws. Ethan Hawke manages to keep a perfectly maintained goatee for 70 days and no one's hair seems to grow. Ethan Hawke also seems a little out of place as a Uruguayan.

My Better Half bought Dallas Buyer's Club today --we saw it in the Theaters. He knows me . ..if it's got Matt, I'm there on opening night. I love this movie and I've talked about it since its beginning. Leto could have won best Actor if the story was focused more on his character. I do love a good Drag! (I really respect a man that will spend that much time dressing up, 'cause I won't!) It is a damn good movie. It's not what one would consider politically correct but that is what I like in acting the most. It's real. I remember the beginning scare of AIDS and this movie shows how one who's been told that You Are Not Going to Live proves that you can beat the odds at something that has everybody scared ****less and spineless.

And . . .as bony as Matt Mac became to play this role I still say: I'd hit that . . .with a raincoat.

I went to a Sephora one time to try to update make-up for OLF (old lady face). Old lady faces need certain types of make-up so they don't look like a spackled cracked mirror. Anyway, a guy helped me and he was wearing full-out make-up. He looked fantastic and his make-up was flawless and I so wanted to say to him, I want my make-up as smooth as yours!

Unthinkable, with Samuel L Jackson. This is not a movie for the kids, nor the fainthearted, nor the terminally politically-correct, oh no. It's for sure one of the heaviest movies I'll ever see. The story is: a terrorist, who was at one time trained in U.S. military interrogation techniques, plants bombs around the U.S., sends a message to that effect to American authorities, then allows himself to be captured. He knows what's in store for him but is determined not to reveal the location of the bombs. He also won't reveal his demands or motives. The screenplay is very well-written, causing various characters to to be forced to face right/wrong questions.

Netflix? or theaters? Sounds intriguing.

They can make themselves up so well. When I was in school I worked part-time on the over-night shift at a 7-11. One night this couple came in --young lady and a sugar daddy. I really didn't pay much attention to them at first. Sugar daddy was very drunk and the young lady was buying all kinds of stuff in the store. From listening to them talk I could tell they had just met, probably at the night-club that was near the store. She was a very pretty young lady. Her make-up was flawless and I didn't realize she was a male until they reached the counter to check out.

Something told me that sugar daddy was in for a big azz surprise later~ She was beautiful and that was the first time I'd seen drag. I've loved them every since~

The novel by Piers Paul Read, upon which the movie is based, is wonderful; one of the very best-written books I've ever read.

Just got done with The Wolf of Wall Street.

It was written like it was 45% Scorcese, 45% Tarantino, and 10% Robin Williams, but with the funny parts taken out. I didn't care for the characters. I didn't think it was particularly brave with the subject matter. Penny stock brokers who gleefully violate SEC rules, are cocaine and other substance abusers, and hire prostitutes while putting on a facade of a family life?

That's low-hanging fruit there, Marty. We hate them already, okay? If you want to be brave and revelatory, how about going after the mortgage security wheeler-dealers who brought about the crash and walked off scot-free? Now, there would have been an incisive movie.

On the plus side: There was good acting. A lot of the pretty woman looked good naked. The direction really was quite good, with a lot of clever technique.

But the theme was Ugly Unlikable Chaos, and it went on for three freakin' hours, and I was wishing it was over in an hour 40.

I guess this is a negative review.

The underlined: that's debatable. Otherwise meanwhile, your review sounds trustworthy to me. Despite my being a serious fan, I'll not bother with this Scorsese.

That's fair enough, and I shouldn't have been so specific. I should've kept it more generic. It sounds more political than intended, really, and that's due to some personal bias based on personal experience, which is simply not relevant. Point taken.

I'm biased too, I guess. I guess most everyone who tries to think is. Meanwhile, I'm sorry for whatever happened to you. I believe there's a principle in life, in the Universe, and that I can rely on it to help me find peace of mind. The principle is called Justice Prevails. I'm assured, partly by personal experience, that a person indeed reaps what he sows, that what goes around comes around, that to whomever hurt you a worse hurt will inevitably happen.
