I love it. Maybe you should watch it again later. When the movie was initially released, it wasn't well liked but over the years it developed a rabid cult following. so, you weren't the only one that didn't like the first time they saw it. I think it's hilarious.
I'll probably give it another shot sometime soon. My fiancé loves it and can just about quote every line...lol

I laughed out loud when the sleeping bag exploded. I have to say that for its time Prophecy was a pretty good movie and it was released right about the time there was a new interest in saving Mother earth from the pollution that we humans were creating in abundance, so it was a topical movie that made people who saw it think afterwards about what we were doing with our pollution. This one is due for a major remake.

Perhaps at the time people were less critical of the effects? It came out at the same time as Alien, so not everyone had seen that yet, or was used to high quality special effects. After Alien effects in general got much better: The Howling, American Werewolf, The Thing etc.

The Beach (2000) Leo

I'm in the minority, but I've always kind of liked this one. This movie was almost universally panned when it was released and there are some problems with it but I think the story is interesting and the cinematography is beautiful.

Has anyone here read the book? I 'm curious how it compares to the film.
I saw it when it first came out in the theater. This was supposed to be the movie that made Leo jump from being the teenage matinee idol to an adult leading man. Sorry, but he still looks like he's 16 or 17 and the love scenes between him and the female lead were hard to watch. It is a beautifully filmed movie with lots of breathtaking scenes. Never read the book.

Checked out the DVD Why Him? from the library and watched it last night. Raunchy, raunchy stuff! Bryan Cranston and Megan Mullally - couldn't pass it up. James Franco is great in this too - he is a very diverse actor. Some extremely funny scenes, but not for the easily offended. This would be a great movie to use as a drinking game. Every time you hear the F word, take a drink. (P.S. You'll wake up sometime next month! ;-D )

I thought this movie was hilarious. But it's not for the kids. ;-D

Saint Ralph - Excellent fictional account of a young boy who wants to win the Boston Marathon as the miracle to bring his mom out of a coma. Young actor, Adam Butcher, is very convincing in his role, both dramatically and comically.

Daddy's Home - Though he gets time for laughs, Will Ferrell plays more of the straight guy against Mark Wahlberg's funny guy. As 80sFan stated earlier in this thread, this movie is funny and just what you want from all the characters. Freaks and Geeks fans will enjoy Linda Cardellini (F & G's Lindsey), the two kids are cute, Ferrell and Wahlberg are both funny and endearing, handyman Griff is great, and who doesn't like watching Marky Mark do one-armed lifts with his shirt off? C'mon guys, he's something to look at. :)

Paterson - I can't stop thinking about this movie. With all today's movies focusing on super heroes, explosions and CGI, Paterson does the opposite. This is a week in the life of a regular bus driver (perfectly played by Adam Driver) who writes poetry. Talk about a slow movie, but I was hanging on to every bit of the routine, the mundane, the simple things in Paterson's life. His wife, played by Golshifteh Farahani, lights up Paterson's home life, and she lights up the screen as well. The cinematography is beautiful, the silences are many and welcome. I'm guessing that most people wouldn't like this film, but I loved it. It celebrates the simplicity of life, the uniqueness of a husband who supports every dream his wife has, the special way patterns and poetry reveal who we really are as people. Much of our lives is routine and hard, but the times that we love, protect, help, support and laugh, lend to the world and our own humanity.
