(More of an annoyance.) My previous job had to have the nastiest microwave ever. They must of been very lazy coworkers. They would just let stuff blow up in the microwave and NOT clean it. It seemed that I always had to clean the microwave prior to usage.
It gets tiresome after a while I found - no use putting a sign up asking people to clean up after themselves - they do not really seem to care - it is as if they figure the microwave fairy comes along and magically cleans it!

I never really experimented with the microwave, I don't know why. (I wrecked plenty of other stuff...) But my mother had a mis-matched conglomeration of dishes when I was a kid, and I can't count the number of times I put a dish in the microwave, thinking it was fine, only to have the Fourth of July in miniature two seconds later. :facepalm_smiley:

I love the old 70s ads when the microwave was young. These ads would have these big birds in the ads like you could cook a turkey in one. I suppose you can, but it sure as hell isn't going to look like that. ;-D

;-D My husband's mom tried cooking the Thanksgiving turkey in the microwave the first year they had one when he was little. He said it poofed open pretty much Christmas Vacation style.

We got one of them newfangled, high priced, machines in the mid 70’s. The retailer actually had classes in the evenings on how to use them. Took the 5 classes, once a week, but I thought it was overkill as all I ever used it for was to make scrambled eggs in a styrofoam cup.
In a STYROFOAM cup? Are you kidding? They should have called it "How NOT to microwave" - wow.

So here it is 40 years later and you're still alive and kicking, eh?

Hubby (Mr. Chef) makes the best scrambled eggs using the microwave (but he uses a Pyrex glass 2 cup measuring cup) - I get to clean it afterwards :m_pan:

I haven't really had "disasters." I did used to do scrambled eggs in the microwave, but I got weary of the chiseling afterwards, and it turns out that we like the eggs better with sauteed vegetables in them anyway.

I bought a nice cup from the Space Center in Cape Canaveral. Used it to heat tea or coffee in the microwave. Apparently, I wasn't connecting with the fact that the cup was largely metal. Went to take it out, noticed that the shiny cup had turned to dark dull gray, and I about scorched my hand as soon as I touched it. I still have the cup, but it's not nearly so pretty, and it never gets used. We use cups that we can stick in the microwave for a quick reheat.
