Anyone ever see her in the 1977 movie "3 Women"? She plays a an awkward character in that movie, an outsider in an apartment complex who just can't seem to see how much everyone else around her just doesn't like her or want her around. It's a strange and even creepy movie although not a horror movie, but it does make you uncomfortable to see how people treat her, despite her clueless confidence in herself.
Watched this movie for the first time last night. Already want to watch it again. Wow!

....anyone with a passing lick of common sense would see that something was "off", but if it wasn't completely manifest-it could have been written off as eccentricity....with his legendary manipulation providing the final push....

That's kind of my point. In Hollywood they are all a bit eccentric. (Much better wording than I was using. Thank you.) Would a director, especially when that movie was made, be expected to know the difference? I'm not saying he's a nice guy....I just don't think he's on par with "doctor" Phil in having taken advantage of Shelly. (Just my opinion.)

There are also so many people in Hollywood dealing with depression severe depressions, often leading to suicide and/or drug addictions.

Kubrick exploited her with fear. He wanted his movie to be good. It was about money for him too. Ratings. Good box office. So he terrified her and treated her like crap on set. Apparently during the filming, someone was trying to get her to see a psychiatrist. So, it was apparent when she was laying in a fetal position in her dressing room trailer, that she was having mental problems.

This is awful... it's disgusting what people got away with even only that long ago. Poor woman, should never have been put through any of this. I wonder how different her life would have been had this been stopped? (She surely would have needed other help too, but, this was significant.)

....it's no offense meant to you ma'am....I just think he's a charlatan, and he played her for a fool.....
No, I get it. People here don't like him.

I personally think he tried very hard to get her help, to get her connected to the people who could help her. I think he treated her very respectfully.

Dr Phil used to be ok, somewhat - years ago. I kinda liked the way he said it like it was.. Now I feel that he exploits everyone for ratings and the books and products he sells for himself, his wife's beauty products and his son's Dr. show.

Always the same. Let them cry, almost get Maury like, blame the parents - Send them off to some fancy rehab owned by one of his friends.

Sold out. Shame. But that's just my opinion.
