Aw you say that now,in the bright light of the SKMB,but I bet when it is odarkthirty, and you hear the rappin, the tappin, the gently tappin on your chamber door, you will run screaming for your closet,"GNT!!GNNTTTT!!!!COME SAVE ME!!!!!" and you will be left bereft,as Gnt will be likely be watching a rerun of Hogan's Heroes and inspecting the bottom of a bag of Keebler's chocolate chip cookies for errant crumbs.. don't say I didn't warn ya.. ;)
...it's like he's looking into my house!!!....

I wondered about her when I heard that she was actually terrified during the filming of The Shining. Apparently her reaction to Jack Nicholson chopping through the door was genuine, despite the presence of the film crew, knowing it was in the script, and so on. That didn't seem to be the reaction of a balanced person, though most just put it down to her 'being in the moment' as an actress (or actor, if you prefer).
Even so, it's shocking to see how she is now, and a massive shame for her first and foremost. I just hope she can get whatever help she needs.

I've read that Kubrick did everything he could to drive her crazy and keep her off balance during the making of the flick. From what I've read, Kubrick was that way with most of his actors.

But anyway, yeah, kinda sad. And what a freaking parasite, that 'Dr' Phil, using her unfortunate mental condition to get ratings. Tell yez, I cannot STAND that self righteous media whore.

I just went and looked at my Shelley Duvall history -- I am brutal to this woman. Although, in my defense, I do say that I know she is probably a very lovely person in real life. But man, I beat her over the head with her Wendyness. And that's just on this current board! There are years of my scathing remarks about her acting.

I still don't think she was right for the role, but I need to remember there is a person behind that character.
Dana Jean, I second this sentiment. She really is a talented actress and I have made my own remarks at her expense but I wish her well and hope she finds help and peace. Truly.

Janet Leigh claimed she was never able to take a shower after filming Psycho.

And there are a lot of stories about the filming of The Birds.

My Letter to you @DrPhil Re: Your exploitive use of Shelly Duvall is a form of LURID ENTERTAINMENT and is shameful.

Ahh, don't feel bad. Why did you go and do that? We all had good fun making fun of her performance. :) I still say rightly so.

Hope she gets the help she needs. I will watch, if I remember.

((Deej)) Do not beat yourself up, darling. You did not make her or drive her crazy. Hope she will get help, but it's not on you any way!!!

Thanks, but I don't mean to make this about me. Not at all. I was just commenting how brutal I have been, and now seeing her this way -- well, it's sort of like bullying the special needs kid. So, I was just slapping my own hands for that.

I do hope she gets help. I want her well. And yes, it does seem a bit exploitive if she is unstable, she can't give proper consent.

I agree it is potentially exploitative. Unless this interview is old and she ended up getting cured and only then consented after the fact to have the old interview shown, she would not be competent to make a clear decision on the matter.
.....unless Phil, family or friends are prepared to actually take over her care and see her through treatment, this will lead to nothing but a public mockery and no resolution to her issues.....her problem is the most severe form of schizophrenia, and therapy of any type after all this time will be problematic....I do hope she has someone to watch over her or take her into guardianship or she will die a very sick lady....

Again, I don't understand the nature of Schizophrenia, but are you born with this? Or does it come on later in life? I ask because, if she has been dealing with this since she was young, what Kubrick put her through -- scaring her and all that, adding to her torment and again, taking advantage of an unstable person (although I'm sure she kept that hidden to get jobs so he probably didn't know) seems a bit hypocritical of Kubrick's daughter to be writing a letter to Dr. Phil. Two wrongs don't make you righteous, Miss Kubrick. Her father took advantage of an unstable person too, whether he knew it or not.

...if I remember correctly, onset is usually in the mid-teen years to the mid-30's....so yes, she could have well have been afflicted during the filming.....

That was a ruff show to watch. For those who recorded- watch. Pay attention to the outcome.
My wish
that the local doctors, with help from her mother and family, will give Shelley some peace of mind. May the alternative methods work for her. Just so sad.

I guess I won't be able to watch it soon. I took a look into the video library some how. That are some really tough topics. I am glad no suchs "show" runs in germany.:ops:
