I remember 90's. My parents bought this kind of game for me and my sister Xmas 1997
PlayStation_2440942k.jpg

unfortunately I gave it away cause it didn't work in any of our TV's

90's was a good time for me. I was still a child but so much happened. Spice Girls,
Aqua and Backstreet Boys was my favorite bands. I saw Jurassic Park end of 90's
first. I got my own horse 98 what else oh I can remember everything.

Wall-to-wall proper Star Trek.
Madchester followed by Grunge followed by Britpop, killed by Tony Blair and Noel Gallacher's love-in in 1997.
Technology being a tool and somewhat dim-witted servant rather than a (totally 'shag'-witted) master.
A sense of positivity and confidence in the world, despite the obvious trouble zones.
Being cold, wet and hungry and thinking there had to be better ways of spending a number of my weekends.
Nothing to do with the 90s per se, but still being young enough to believe anything was possible. All I had to do was work hard and reach for it.
On the flip of that, being told I couldn't play football again (dodgy knee) and being hit with redundancy twice before the age of 22.

Srbo: Good to see you around, mate. But my (fritzing) memory insists that the Berlin Wall fell in the last months of 1989. :smile2:

A very, very special and sacred time in my life were the early 90's...lots of great memories...the ever present under current to everything that I experienced in the 90's seems to be music. All the songs, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Candlebox, Temple of the Dog, and several others. It seems sometimes that all the songs of so many of those bands are tied to so many good memories.

Both good and bad. In retrospect it was really cool to be there in the midst of a musical paradigm shift (goodbye hair metal, hello good music). I remember that I had to import Soundgarden records personally before they went big, you simply could not buy them in Sweden! I loved most of the bands that emerged in that vein; Soundgarden (as mentioned above), Alice In Chains, Meat Puppets, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Tad, Mother Love Bone, and to a lesser extent Nirvana.

During the 90's I also discovered country music. Specifically the ”alternative” country music scene, and that was a real eye-opener, that also helped me break down barriers into all kinds of musical genres I had been too ignorant to give a go.

I remember not having a TV for most of this decade. Instead I read a lot, and by ”a lot” I mean that I practically devoured books! I read everything by Charles Bukowski, Kafka, Steinbeck, Ross McDonald, Elmore Leonard, Erich Maria Remarque, Hemingway, Gogol, Sara Paretsky, Jean-Paul Sartre, William Burroughs and countless others. I didn't care about genres really, I just wanted to read good books. All the time!

Those were the good things. In 1995 my friend Rickard died, when we were both only twenty years old. It still hurts. I visit his grave when I can, and I always feel guilt, because the other bad thing was that I nearly killed myself with self-destructive behaviour during this decade. My friend passed away for no bloody reason at all, and I did my best to kill myself with outrageous behavior, alcohol and chemicals. There is nothing ”fair” about life.

So, like I said: both good and bad, as life in general I suppose. Sorry if I got a wee bit personal.

Ah.... the 90's: only 1 child, a smaller mortgage payment, smaller house to clean, I worked at a snazzy architectural firm in a cool part of the city. DMB concerts. I still smoked. Went out with the girls at least once a month. Not to mention all the cool pop culture. One of my best friends from that era is gone now (suicide, just last year). I'd like to re-visit the 90s for a few minutes. It makes me want to cry just thinking about. Life was simpler then.

Another 90's memory. Finnish currency before we changed to € 2002

This is a 20 mk. I remember this currency well as kid and some elder people sometimes say to me, oh you are too young to know what our
currency was before euros. And usually reply to them. I know very well what currency we had before.

The early 90s were an emotional roller coaster ride for me, my mother died, I helped my sister raise my youngest siblings, and I had several misfires on the romance front. Pop-culturally I found lots to like in reading, music, and movies, far too many to list here. Especially music: I went to more concerts and bought more music in the 90's than all the other decades combined. It seemed to be such an important part of my life. I think it spoke to me, and helped me cope with the high and low emotions I was feeling.

Financially I finally began to get some independence and spending money when I got my first real job in the early 90's. I also bought my first car and started to live in the real world outside of my family.

But the best thing that happened in the 90's was meeting my future wife, my dear Tommie. My whole world changed for the best from the moment I met her. I can never be grateful enough for the love and kindness she has given me, and how she makes me a better person!

Pre Euro currency was crazy, I remember as a kid while learning in school about foreign currency, thinking I would be quite rich if I had 100 francs, until you realised it was worth about 9 or 10 pounds. What was 20 marks worth back then?

I remember shell suits. In Liverpool in particular the shell suit was very popular, neon colours - lots of yellow, pink and aqua. I had a few, including an all bright white Sergio Tacchini shell suit....oh the shame! Lacoste actually brought them back recently I think. Once again, fashion was awful, did we ever look good? There was one good thing about 90's fashion, adidas was still the trefoil, now they sell retro "Adidas originals" stuff at a premium.
