Tomorrow my family wants to go pick some fresh blackberries, raspberries and blueberries on a farm.

Forty-Five minutes each way. Hunched over in the sun doing manual labor. Bugs! A whole half a day wasted. I’m sooooo looking forward to it.

I mean, come on! There’s a freakin’ farmers market 10 minutes down the road. Fresh packaged fruit, no fuss no muss. And they probably come from that same dang farm! Half hour out of the day, tops!

(The only good I can see is I will be sure to ask them to direct me to the Blue Raspberry area... I do so want to try some of those :))

My wife's good friend (who is a black woman) heard we were going berry picking at a farm and she said "Only white folks would think it's fun to pay money for the privilege of picking someone's crops in the hot sun."

Probably best if I didn't. ;-D I'm having a hard enough time maintaining my 110/68 blood pressure here with you--can't imagine having to do it with someone who's even more to the right.
LOL. She’s an even bigger SK fan than I am. I read a book once, she’s read them 3 or 4 times. Every movie that comes on we have to watch. But I know she’d probably get banned within a week with her political views, so I’ve kept her away. Ms Mod... you owe me. :)

Oh, I don't know. If she's able to be a far right conservative and still reads Steve's books, she can't be all bad.;;D

Oh ye of misplaced optimism. Stephen King is the only person she’s willing to ignore the political views and still enjoy their art. But I’m not allowed to talk his politics with her, as she doesn’t want her love of his writings to be poisoned. You should see the list of actors/actresses who’s movies I need to watch alone. And I really would like to see "Lucy." Can’t even go with one of my kids to see it as going to the movies with their dad is a major social faux pas. :)

hahaha! Shoot. Maybe someone went to the farmer's market and then threw that fresh packaged fruit, no muss, no fuss, right in the dumpster behind the Dairy queen!
LOL The closest Dairy Queen is also a half hour away and unfortunately I believe they don't use fresh fruit. But I would consider it if it would get me out of the ordeal. :)

Now see, all your wayward (I'm putting that in for your benefit) early years as a liberal were for good.

I take it you've never seen the SIZE of her soapbox. :)

Imho, since politics is man-made, politics as a fundamental belief system is fundamentally misguided. Even scientists re-decide their absolute truths with relative frequency. The problem is that, I believe, humans are wired with a need to believe absolutely. This is not to say that we must be inflexible; just that by nature we crave truth, facts, or, for lack of a better word (see some of my old friends), reality. Anything man-made necessarily doesn't possess the absolute truth; none of us knows everything already, no matter how much we try to convince ourselves otherwise. So to decide anything some man says is absolutely true detracts from the Mission of finding out for sure.

Like there's any reasoning with her.

Our family used to love to go out and pick different kind of berries. We thought of it as a day well spent. It could be wild strawberries, blueberries or raspberries or something else. great family time.
Well I agree with the “spent” part LOL. I’d be forever grateful if you’d take my place. I might even consider paying airfare. :)

(an aside... I know sometimes you can’t gauge a person's sense of humor in these posts (especially in mine ;)), but my wife and I always jest and joust with each other like this. We have people in stitches at times. I'm required to be at all her employer's functions. The owner says he should charge admission for the way my wife and I interact with each other... and I say things he only wishes he could say to her)

Thats good. I hope you get a good catch of berries so to speak. What do you do with them? Pies, cakes, eat them with icecream? jam?
I enjoy them the best au naturale. I also like them in Italian Ice. But my wife has recently been talking about making jelly and the picking farm sells the necessary equipment. Just another adventure in temporary insanity IMO. $2.00 a jar at the farmers market makes much more sense. It’s one of those things you know you will later be able to say “I told you so,” but know you can’t if you want to keep your man parts intact. :)
