I made two Acadian meat pies today. My husband made gravy. I'm going to make some mashed potatoes and green beans to go with it.

This is my first ever attempt to make meat pies. Hoping they turned out.
Make your own crust? I really love meat pies even though they can be fattening.

To me it's comfort food.

I broke my tooth and I have to go to the dentist tomorrow but I am making pork chops and mashed potatoes with gravy and green peas. Maybe, I will eat the mashed lol.
Hey Staro - hope that tooth gets taken care of "toot de sweet".

My soup smells good. I followed the recipe above but also added about 1 1/2 cups fresh sliced mushrooms, a couple of bay leaves and maybe a heaping tablespoon of parsley. I chopped up the baby potatoes in quarters so they could cook faster but of course left the peel on.

The only thing missing from the recipe was garlic so I added a bit of that as well.

No, we cheated. But since we plan to make again, I also plan to start making pastry so. I'll be ready. It will be sooooo much better because using the juice to make the crust adds flavour.

I opened the brand new bottle of Savory closed my eyes and just breathed deep. My husband asked me what's so special about Savory so I held it out to him....one sniff and he remembers. I used to cook with it often, as did my mom. But it's near impossible to find. Next time he goes to The Rock I want him to get me the good stuff.

So yes....comfort food for sure. Comfort smell. :D

My mom made a savory green bean recipe, man that was good. Haven't had it since she left me.

Hi!

What is Savory, please? (I Googled "Bottle of Savory" but couldn't find anything.)

I want to try it!

I make weird stuff. Well, I make stuff weird. =D

For example, make the basic cornbread batter but add diced pickled jalapenos and some drained whole kernel corn. The jalapeno adds some spice/heat and the corn adds sweet and texture.

It's an herb. Summer Savory is better than winter...it's sweeter. It's comparable to marjoram or thyme. When I couldn't find it, I was using poultry seasoning...but it is just not as good.

I can't grow anything, so I wanted to buy dried....it's green in a spice bottle. DH found ground, with is brown. Smells and tastes great, but when he goes down to newfoundland in the spring I'll remind him to look for the real stuff.

Sometimes it's spelled Savoury.
