Finally finished the tepid romance. It was really pretty bad, I'm sorry to say. Still, it's finished and the review written, and even a few days early! And I made my editor laugh-- In her words, "I love it when a book disappoints you. You can be so subtly sarcastic, but ever so respectfully." :)

And with that, I'm out of review books until the next wave hits in a couple of weeks. Will be starting the Harlan Coben that staropeace sent me tonight, then hopefully finish Boy's Life and hit the library books. I really would read all day, every day, if I could :)
I'm sure of that. Good sarcasm in a review is a balm for readers. Too many reviews that i read over here just praise the book. Of course they often know the authors and gets praise in return but the point of reviewing a book sometimes get lost. But sink into Boys Life now. It is great!

YOU liked it?! Dogs and all? ;;D
Yes, indeed I did like it, dogs and all. Those dogs were not supernaturally intelligent ones, able to spell out words and make sentences with kids reading blocks or Scrabble tiles. I do like alot of Dean's books, I've just grown tired and weary of what seems to be the 'old stand-by' from Dean in the last ten years or so. He's better than that, he's proven it in many previous novels. I'd like for him to write another straight suspense/thriller/chase/mystery novel again. No 'ooga-boogas', no gifted dogs, no flying saucers, no time travel. Just something involving an ordinary person cast into a life altering event. And he needs to finish the Christopher Snow series......

Totally understand. I read Shattered and it was....amazing. Especially considering it is one of his earlier works.

You should check out The City, one of his newest novels. It's totally devoid of everything you dislike. It's a beautiful story. :)

Mort, by Terry Pratchett (rereading Discworld series). Finished Four Past Midnight recently (hadn't read it before for some reason), and after joining this site I'm finding out I've missed a number of Stephen King books! At the very least I need to pick up Cell. I'll do some research to find out which Stephen King books I've missed and will eventually make a "buying" post for a lot of paperbacks. So long as all the pages are there, I don't care what the condition is :)

You could use our library to see what you've missed.

The Accident - Linwood Barclay - I'm about 1/4 through and am liking it. A man's wife dies in a strange DUI accident (completely out of character for her to drink and drive) and in the days and weeks after her death, he begins to see that she had a secret life that involved many of her friends. Not far enough in to see what that secret life was yet but he has found out enough to make him wonder if he really knew her that well.

Recently finished
Echo Park - Michael Connelly - This one ranks up there with my favorite Harry Bosch books. There was a good chunk of this book in the final few episodes of the season 1 TV series on Amazon.

The woods are lovely dark and deep
Recently finished Justin Cronin's The Passage and its sequel, The Twelve, and awaiting the final book this fall, City of Mirrors. Cool twist on vampires, created by a military experiment gone bad (don't they all??). Definitely worth reading if you like SK.

Reading Speaks the Nightbird by Robert McCammon. A little more than 400 pages in and it is really good. Not horror but a real good historical crime story. Centering around a witchtrial in 1699. Can be recommended. When i say historical crime i don't mean anything that really happened. The story is taking place some years after the Salem trials.
Then you have not met the man and his poor mare yet?

I'm very fond of both authors. I must have missed that Linwood Barclay. I'll be looking out for it. Echo Park is one of my favorite Harry Bosch books.

There's a thread called Latest thriftstore/used bookstore purchases that you can post in when you make your purchases.
