I'm sure of that. Good sarcasm in a review is a balm for readers. Too many reviews that i read over here just praise the book. Of course they often know the authors and gets praise in return but the point of reviewing a book sometimes get lost. But sink into Boys Life now. It is great! Finally finished the tepid romance. It was really pretty bad, I'm sorry to say. Still, it's finished and the review written, and even a few days early! And I made my editor laugh-- In her words, "I love it when a book disappoints you. You can be so subtly sarcastic, but ever so respectfully."
And with that, I'm out of review books until the next wave hits in a couple of weeks. Will be starting the Harlan Coben that staropeace sent me tonight, then hopefully finish Boy's Life and hit the library books. I really would read all day, every day, if I could
Yes, indeed I did like it, dogs and all. Those dogs were not supernaturally intelligent ones, able to spell out words and make sentences with kids reading blocks or Scrabble tiles. I do like alot of Dean's books, I've just grown tired and weary of what seems to be the 'old stand-by' from Dean in the last ten years or so. He's better than that, he's proven it in many previous novels. I'd like for him to write another straight suspense/thriller/chase/mystery novel again. No 'ooga-boogas', no gifted dogs, no flying saucers, no time travel. Just something involving an ordinary person cast into a life altering event. And he needs to finish the Christopher Snow series......YOU liked it?! Dogs and all?
Totally understand. I read Shattered and it was....amazing. Especially considering it is one of his earlier works.Yes, indeed I did like it, dogs and all. You could use our library to see what you've missed.Mort, by Terry Pratchett (rereading Discworld series). Finished Four Past Midnight recently (hadn't read it before for some reason), and after joining this site I'm finding out I've missed a number of Stephen King books! At the very least I need to pick up Cell. I'll do some research to find out which Stephen King books I've missed and will eventually make a "buying" post for a lot of paperbacks. So long as all the pages are there, I don't care what the condition is
Perfect, thanks! You could use our library to see what you've missed.
Recently finished Justin Cronin's The Passage and its sequel, The Twelve, and awaiting the final book this fall, City of Mirrors. Cool twist on vampires, created by a military experiment gone bad (don't they all??). Definitely worth reading if you like SK.
Then you have not met the man and his poor mare yet?Reading Speaks the Nightbird by Robert McCammon. A little more than 400 pages in and it is really good. Not horror but a real good historical crime story. Centering around a witchtrial in 1699. Can be recommended. When i say historical crime i don't mean anything that really happened. The story is taking place some years after the Salem trials.
Did not know there was an 'abridged kid edition'....Be really interested in what he thinks! The unabridged is one of my all times favorites!LilMan is reading Dracula! It's an abridged kid edition, but still... my shriveled little heart just grew three sizes View attachment 9574

Hey, Kurben,Thank you!! Have always been bad at remembering the order of books in a series. As soon as it more than three books i'm lost.
I'm very fond of both authors. I must have missed that Linwood Barclay. I'll be looking out for it. Echo Park is one of my favorite Harry Bosch books. The Accident - Linwood Barclay - I'm about 1/4 through and am liking it. A man's wife dies in a strange DUI accident (completely out of character for her to drink and drive) and in the days and weeks after her death, he begins to see that she had a secret life that involved many of her friends. Not far enough in to see what that secret life was yet but he has found out enough to make him wonder if he really knew her that well.
Recently finished
Echo Park - Michael Connelly - This one ranks up there with my favorite Harry Bosch books. There was a good chunk of this book in the final few episodes of the season 1 TV series on Amazon.
Sheesh! You just started that yesterday!Just finished Dean Koontz's The Taking. Not sure what to read next-- either continue my Dark Tower reread with W&G or McCammon's Boy's Life. Hmmmm.
Actually i have. I thought it was horrible but not horror if you understand my meaning. These kind of men did and perhaps still do exist. Then you have not met the man and his poor mare yet?
Did you like the 'twist' ending?Just finished Dean Koontz's The Taking. Not sure what to read next-- either continue my Dark Tower reread with W&G or McCammon's Boy's Life. Hmmmm.
