I really liked Clan of the Cave Bear! The second one is pretty good too, but then they go downhill.Finished the second in the Sebastian St. Cyr series, When Gods Die. It was just okay...one of those books where there are so many characters and royal titles, that I lost track of who was whom. I really liked the first book too.
Now, after many years of hearing how great it is, I'm reading The Clan of the Cave Bear. About 50 pages in and really enjoying it so far.
Is that the one by Nick Cutter?About 230 pages into The Troop. This book is f*cking disgusting.
Don't you mean the third (the Mammoth hunters)? The second(Valley of the Horses) i think is horrible. Jondalar is a very boring character that mainly is introduced because Ayla needs a mate. You just know that its gonna end the way it does from the first chapter. But then they go downhill as you said.I really liked Clan of the Cave Bear! I've no expert on him but i think Boys Life is without a doubt his best.FINALLY back to Boy's Life. Not quite halfway through. Think I like the writing style in this one the best of all of his I've read so far.
It's good but don't read it if you have a weak stomach. Is that the one by Nick Cutter?
I thought that I had read good things about that?
There were a couple of 'scenes' that I had to just skim thru (the turtle comes to mind).About 230 pages into The Troop. This book is f*cking disgusting.
For me it was the turtle and the cat. I'm a big cat lover and had to pretty much skip that part. There were a couple of 'scenes' that I had to just skim thru (the turtle comes to mind).
I wasn't in love with the second one, true, but The Mammoth Hunters is where the prevalence of 'cave porn' starts I got very, very tired of it very, very quickly.Don't you mean the third (the Mammoth hunters)? So far I like it the best. It's a nice 'slice of life' book. I am wondering, though, when the story will get back around to what I thought was the main point. If it doesn't, that's fine--the writing is lovely--but it might have been better to leave it without the beginning sequence. This is from someone just south of the middle of the book, though, so I could definitely be proven wrong before I get to the end.I've no expert on him but i think Boys Life is without a doubt his best.
I finished "The Accident" by Linwood Barclay and did not like it very much. It started out good but went downhill fast after the halfway mark. With thrillers, there is a line an author can cross where there are just so many twists, turns and shocking surprises that the novel loses believability. Not only did Barclay cross the line but he took a running start and leaped over it like an Olympic long jumper. Most of the shocks and surprises seemed forced. Hopefully, this is not the case with his other books. I've read one of his books before this one and loved it but this one was a mess.
