Finally back to Maguire's After Alice book. Not loving it, so far, but I'm only 6 chapters in, and they're short chapters. We'll see. I have to turn in the review soon; I've had the PB for a while, but they must be anxious because they just sent me a HB--lol. If anyone wants the PB, they're welcome to it (after the book's drop date, of course)

Glutting myself on EC horror comics. Read about a wicked butcher step-father who gets ground into hamburger by the kid's imaginary friend, Hozir. Another one featuring a vampire restaurant that serves blood sherbet and roast blood clots. A Bradbury one about a fiendish undertaker who takes secret delight in defiling his defenseless clientele (until they take their revenge, natch), oh, just great stuff...
Those sound wonderful! I've read a lot about the early EC comics, and I've found a few compendiums in the library, but I've never had one of my own.

I'm reading "Lincoln", the historical novel by Gore Vidal. Very interesting, but there are so many characters, so many events and political manuevering going on, it's not an easy read.
Not exactly like reading something from Stephen King. It's basically all dialogue, with very little action, so it moves from one conversation to the next. Vidal did a lot of work to write this book, but I'm still up in the air over whether I think it's a good novel or not. Just introduced a character named John Wilkes Booth, so I think something is about to happen...

I attempted to read Lincoln when it was published but, like you say, it's too complicated with all the characters, etc. I think I made it about half-way then set it aside.

Oh. Getcha some. Go with the latest EC Archives. They're like the Russ Cochran EC Library collections from the eighties, but in dazzling, remastered FULL COLOR. They're fifty dollar hardbacks, but I get em used (perfect shape so far) online for half that. Lovin em.

Got vol. 5 of Tales from the Crypt just today, matter of fact. Delicious.

No, but he did in Tarzan. And somehow i didn't mind it in Prince valiant. Love it. Dont know why its ok there and dont like it in Tarzan. Illogical.

What about Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon? No talk bubbles on those strips, but I bet you dug the hell out of em. If you've read em, that is. If not, Kurbdog--getcha some and DIG.

Reading now: Dragonball Vol. 9 (Manga), Trigun Maximum Omnibus Vol. 2 (Manga), A Tale for the Time Being (Literature) by Ruth Ozeka, and Spring Snow (Literature) by Yukio Mishima.

Mishima himself is a fascinating dude. He's the third Japanese author out of the five I've read that committed suicide. Only Mishima committed seppuku after attempting and utterly failing a coup d'etat. Somewhat bizarrely, the guy that beat him for a Nobel Prize in Literature in 1968 was his buddy Yasunari Kawabata and Kawabata killed himself two years after Mishima did although not in the same over the top way (Kawabata gassed himself).

But Mishima won out in the end (I guess you could say) since he got the Mishima Award, a Japanese award for literary excellence, named after him in 1988.

Doesn't really have much to do with what I'm reading, but sometimes truth is stranger than fiction, is it not?

Ive read some of Raymonds Flash Gordon. Liked it. And youre right, no talk bubbles. I told you that my disliking them in Tarzan is illogical.

I finished Beloved by Toni Morissette over the weekend. This was my "Banned Book" that I picked from the other thread.
I didn't love it. I wanted to like it more than I did, but it just wasn't getting me. I felt confused by her constantly jumping between character view points and time frames. I was focusing so much on when something was supposed to have happened that I lost some of the story. And I was really hoping for a more satisfying ending.

Now I am working on a freebie that I picked up on my kindle, Surviving the Evacuation: Book One - London by Frank Tayell. It's a zombie book, but a fresh approach. So far, I'm enjoying it.

Have you read "Finder's Keepers" yet? - I noticed I bought my copy back in June but still have not started it. Andy has been back up North for almost a month now, so I have no excuse to not start it.

Oh yes. I read that as soon as I could get my hands on it! =D My family knows that once I have a new SK book, Mama is out of commission for a few days and they are on their own! :cool2:

Here's some good news about our Quebequer Marc Aubin best seller. The novel will be available in English version in a few months all over America. The title will be The Executrix, and I can assure you that you need a good solid heart to read this kind of stuff, like I mentionned before. That being said, this is a very good writing...not to beat Sai King of course in my heart, but I must say I'm proud to know this guy and being one of his colleagues.
