Let's see (scrolling back to your list :D): YIKES! There were actually six--I miscounted the first time.
4. Castle of Otranto
48. Gaudy Night
49. It Can't Happen Here
74. Darker Than Amber
82. Shikasta
95. Disgrace

For #4, I haven't heard of either the book or the author!
It is there for its influence. It was before its time. If you want to you can call it the first gothic novel. There are better gothic novels but none earlier and very important for later authors in that genre as many of that genres tools are introduced here.

In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin. Nonfiction. Good stuff so far.
Found an autographed copy of this at Goodwill, bought it and read it. It's a fascinating and terrifying true account of one family's time in Berlin while Hitler was rising in power.

Just started Flowers for Algernon.
I last read it as an assigned book in high school and it really impacted me then...God only knows what it will do to me now.

I loved Flowers for Algernon. It's been a long long time since I read it so now you have me wondering if it would have the same impact all these years later. Let us know how you feel when you finish your second read :)
