I just discovered that about a week ago!You do know that Ridley is the author of TDOER, right?
I haven't been able to get back to it for about a week- crazy hours at work and then had to set it aside to do a Gwendy's Button Box marathon. I'm about halfway though. So far it's good!I gave up Grisham long ago but A Time to Kill was my favorite for a time. Would you let me know if you think that Sycamore Row would complete ATTK ?
The Fourth Hand was pretty good, Until I Find You was abysmal (in my very disappointed opinion ), and I haven't read Avenue of Mysteries yet, either. I forgot about it! Will have to remedy thatI still haven't read The Fourth Hand, Until I Find You, and Avenue of Mysteries.
I did like Bringing up the Bodies but i did not think it was up to Wolf Hall. I also heard it is supposed to be a trilogy but havent seen or even heard the title of the third book. All in all i say BUTB is worth reading. If you like historical fiction that is, but if you liked Wolf Hall i think you enjoy this one too.I'm supposed to be reading two books for review, but halfway through both I've bought a nice HB copy of the first two James Herriott books and can't tear myself away from them. I'd forgotten how much I like these gentle stories.
I also picked up a copy of Hilary Mantel's BRINGING UP THE BODIES, without knowing it was a sequel to WOLF HALL. Apparently it's a trilogy? Kurben , have you read the whole thing, and is it worth getting stuck in to?
I also began to find Grisham too formulaic to enjoy. However, Sycamore Row was a pure joy and completed ATTAK perfectly.I gave up Grisham long ago but A Time to Kill was my favorite for a time. Would you let me know if you think that Sycamore Row would complete ATTK ?
I love historical fiction, if it's well-done. I've read a few that have so many anachronisms that I shudder. I'll give this one a try, then, and look into this 'trilogy' situation.I did like Bringing up the Bodies but i did not think it was up to Wolf Hall. I am no expert either on Cromwell or Henry VIII but i believe Mantel has done some solid research and used it well.I love historical fiction, if it's well-done. I've read a few that have so many anachronisms that I shudder. I'll give this one a try, then, and look into this 'trilogy' situation.
EDIT: As best as I can ascertain, the third book, The Mirror and the Light, is supposed to be out this August. I have my doubts, though, since I haven't been able to pin down a date and these things are usually set many months in advance. It follows Cromwell's life from the death of Anne Boleyn to his own death (1636-1640, I believe).
That is exactly why I set him aside! Well, you and KingRiceFan have lit a fire in me to read this submission. Thank you both.I also began to find Grisham too formulaic to enjoy. However, Sycamore Row was a pure joy and completed ATTAK perfectly.
LOL--yes. What's a century between friends, after all?I am no expert either on Cromwell or Henry VIII but i believe Mantel has done some solid research and used it well.
And, by the way, surely you mean 1536-40? A typo i'm sure.
....have they found him yet?......Last night I was reading something on Jimmy Hoffa.
