i love trek, but i'm not on board with this at all. i'm so tired of prequels, which seem only to exist to screw with established timelines. of course, this is supposedly set in the timeline jj abrams established, so that's a double whammy of crap for me.
Good, you deserve a double whammy of crap! You need to say, "Please sir, may I have another!" Listen, or should I say, "'Ij!" -- listen in Klingon. The time distortion thing was something of genius. I thought it was fantastic! That way, the original series stays in a locked box. And in the films, there can be ST characters in peril or life altering situations. Bones may not live over 100. Sulu might turn renegade! It's a game changer. The films were just fun. Trek in an alternate reality like the reams & reams of fan-fiction that's been splattered out over the last several decades. And if the films bring young fans back to the old series, what's the harm? What's your beef with JJ. Abrams?! You hate him like Khan hates Kirk!
