So here's the run-down for the last week:
'Black Berets' original paperbacks vol. 1-5 by 'Mike McCray' a.k.a. Michael McDowell. All from thriftbooks.com, all less than $5 each. I'm hoping to get the entire series (there are 13 in all) as I want to have another experience reading something by McDowell that I haven't read before.
Yesterday and today the mailman delivered #6, 7, 9 and 12 in the above mentioned series. I only have a couple more left to get and I'll be the proud owner of the whole set! =D

A very nice first edition of Rebecca! I have a copy already, of course, but this is a lovely old book. I didn't know it was a first until I got it home and did some research. The book itself is in pristine condition--a little yellowing because of the age, but that's it. The dust jacket is a little more worn, but it's numbered, and apparently having the jacket at all is unusual. The only one I found online with a jacket was going for over $2500.00 because it was signed. The other copies I saw were going for between $160-$250, jacket less. A good find for $2!

I found a really nice copy at Value Village a few weeks ago but didn't get it. It was like a 25th printing or something like that, but it excellent shape.

Today I got this:
9781880418567-us-300.jpg

It's the only Dark Tower Book that I didn't already have and I can't believe I have it in hardcover now. I had to borrow it to read it. It's a first edition and in perfect condition - except that someone cut the price off the corner of the cover inside. I know non-readers who do this when they give a reader a book - I wish they wouldn't do that. I can't believe I found it! And it was the only SK book on the shelves.

kingricefan , thank you for introducing me to the Blackwater Saga :) I've been thinking about it all day, then my daughter made reference to it just now. I think this is a must buy--TO THRIFTBOOKS! :monkey_kite:
You're so welcome! Good luck finding them at a thriftstore. I had to get mine from thriftbooks.com I used to have a pristine set of those books but got rid of them when I moved......stupid, stupid me!

Bought The Quartet That Orchestrated The Second American Revolution by Joseph Ellis. just 3 US dollars. About the years 1783-1789 His quartet are Alexander Hamilton, George Washinton, John Jay and James Madison. Jefferson has a supporting role but is not in the lead. Have a feeling he is a bit too personfixated. I think the politic of the time where probably depending on more factors that he only touches lightly. But will be interesting nevertheless. Know to little about this period.

I was just looking at that one in the bookstore the other day. Ellis is a reputable historian--his Revolutionary Summer is very good. My daughter is reading Ron Chernow's Hamilton and then his Washington is up next :) As soon as she finishes, I'll nab them for a good read. McCullough's 1776 is phenomenal, as well.
