The last couple days:
I bought myself flowers.
At the grocery store, I walked by a couple homeless young men, boys really, who looked hot, tired and carved out of clods of dirt. They weren't panhandling, just sitting in the shade with their dog. I bought the dog food for a week, walked by them and just handed them the bag. The guy said thank you so softly, and he looked so sad. I didn't get them food as there is a shelter in town that does that, but I wasn't sure where the food for the dog came from. I have no doubt they shared their food. Do shelters allow dogs? Do they feed the pets of the homeless?
I donated books, clothes, bedding, house goods. I recycled two computer towers.
I bought the ingredients so my son could make us Dill Pickle Soup. yummm. My mom used to make this, and we hadn't had it in almost 9 years. He did a great job.
I spray painted an iron pig I have out in the back yard. Every year, I change the color of this pig. This year she is glittery pink! A little late this year, but, life sort of kicked me around for a bit and I had no energy or desire.
I've eaten two Pomegranate popsicles. The only sugar I allow myself for months now.
I'm working on a quilt top that my husband's grandmother made, that she pieced by hand. It's just a little 9 patch square pattern, but she made about fifty of these, all hand sewn. The material choices are old, not particularly pretty, the patterns and textures are not necessarily pleasing to the eye, but, I love the rag tag way she just grabbed a piece and started sewing. These were made for utilitarian reasons, not for pretty. And, I'm sure she used fabric she had on hand, probably old clothes recycled. There is Daniel Boone novelty prints in there! Anyway, I'm going to piece it together, take it to a quilter and have it made.
It will be beautiful. Grandma just died this spring at 99.
