I used to be a massive Rugby League fan, but I've gone off it a bit since it has gone professional. Back in the 1970's, the average first-grade Rugby League player in Sydney had a day job like a butcher( some of them had 'cushy' jobs with companies where they were basically PR people). For instance, where I grew up in Darlinghurst, John Coveney(I think it was him) I used to see delivering the beer kegs to a club near where I lived. I think sports is a distraction to keep the masses 'distracted'. I don't like the advent of sports betting either. Sports has become too political as well. When I hear 'so and so' has signed a 100 million dollar contract, I switch off the radio. I think I read that like in the 1950's the average major League baseballer in America earned ten to fifteen times the average wage, but now it is like 100 times.
I can agree with much of that, but one caveat, the players in professional sports advance through the ranks, dodging injury and trying to keep getting better, until they are better at their sport than 99 percent of the population.. not an easy thing to do, so with great skill and or persistence, comes great rewards. The ones who are really raking in the cash are the teams and leagues and the television networks, they are making huge bucks off sports..

If you play in the English Premier League (or the Italian League or Spanish) you aren't doing too badly. Making about $100,000+ a week. I'd rather go watch a local game of 1st grade cricket at some field here in Newcastle and take a six-pack of beer and a couple of sandwiches and listen to an audio book while watching the cricket.

I admire their single-mindedness. But usually with that type of personality, they aren't usually nice people. It is funny how you read that comedians in real life arn't supposed to be very funny. I'm so glad I got rid of my television set so I'm not being indoctrinated anymore.

Sure. This treads into political realm, but I hope it's not made political. In the 1950s, the average CEO made seven times what the average worker did. Now it's over 300 times.

I was going to say more - a lot more - but that gets us into territory that's probably non grata, and I respect that.

In 8 pages of this thread I have learned that some people don't like sports or Jerry Seinfeld (even had a a few posts that said "not that there's anything wrong with that":))...

There is no consensus "King" of rock n' roll...

That all posters on the board are blood relations and perhaps practice McCarthyism...

And Pink Floyd and pets are similar in that you either love them or they should be leashed around those who don't...

The coolest part to me is that everyone with all these differing viewpoints (unpopular or not) were brought together by one single commonality...

As said on tonight's Teacher Edition of Jeopardy (don't judge, my children are grown or in college) we can thank the Bard of Bangor...

I don’t care about the Royal Family and their growing brood of over-privileged children. Seriously. Zero f**** given.

Little Baby Bunker gets no quarter from SwiftDog Nation! :D
Affirmative! I can't believe the people on my newsfeed on FB that are freaking out over the choice of the kid's name.. some to the point of being depressed which is just gobsmacking me.. I posited that Archie is from Queens so maybe that is a good sign, there were no resultant laughs from those that are ready to slash their wrists over the choice of the kid's name..WTF..

Hey! I love this British Royal stuff. Not to the point of rending my flesh, but I do find it mildly interesting.

Do I post on Facebook about it? Nope. I have never facebooked, or twitted or instagrammed. I don't post a thousand pictures of myself with puppy dog ears and big eyes, or taken a shot above my head with kissy lips and A View to My Cleavage. (Not to be confused with a View to a Kill.) I don't take pictures of my food on a regular basis, I don't post inspirational posters because I'm too busy fighting the good fight for radio station dominance in my car. I didn't watch Seinfeld, but I love Little Women of L.A. and would love to see them rock a puffy shirt and dance the Elaine.

So, we all have the things that get a minute or two of our time. You guys say potato, I say, "Are Meghan and Kate enemies?"

I don't mind hearing about the Royal baby, but the fact that they named their child after a cartoon character is troubling. If he ends up with Harry's red hair, then he will be the butt of jokes and Internet memes. The tributes from the Riverdale cast are already pouring in.

You got that right.
You have a level head about FB, I don't post pictures of myself or other kinds of personal details because they become property of FB.. I like it mainly to keep up with people I have lost contact, it has been good to hear from so many and what they are up to now.. and funny stuff, things like that. There is a lot of crap on there to be sure.. like watching network tv, with non stop commercials driving you nuts..

Oh I get it. There was no 'tude in my comment at all. We all enjoy different things for different reasons. And we all slap our heads over the things we think are a whole bunch of WTH that people invest their time in.

People are strange.

Archie appears to be a very popular name in UK over the past few years.

This got me thinking.

If what you post becomes the property of Facebook, and Stephen King has a facebook, does Facebook own a piece of all Stephen's work he posts about? Maybe not to the stories themselves, but do they own the visuals that Stephen posts? A movie still, an artist's rendering, a photograph? a quote?

That could get pretty legally tangled I would think.

Moderator -- how does that work?

and then a further question, if they own what you post, are they allowed to do with it what they want?
