How far is too far? Have we reached that yet? Pretty soon the P.C pendulum will have swung so far around that it'll come back and hit us in the arse.
I agree.
I was shocked to find out from my sister that in the schools my niece and nephews go to it is against the rules to wish any Christmas or Hanukah greetings, or give cards. Christmas trees (which really are of pagan origin, so should be allowed) are NOT ALLOWED. They have a winter party, but no imagery suggestive of anything Christmas is allowed. The kids can't even wear Santa hats on the last day before Christmas (yeah, Christmas!) break lets out.
Bah humbug indeed.
This reminds me of a South Park episode about the production of the school Christmas (whoops! winter) pageant. The parents were all objecting to everything an were intent on stripping out every single thing that had anything to do with the holiday (religious and secular things both). Well, they ended up with the kids doing some awful modern dance thing dressed in gray smocks to the musical accompaniment of some repetitive droning sound. Of course the parent all started complaining, "this is awful", "who is responsible for this fiasco"?, "you call this a holiday pageant"?
It was hysterical, and spot on.
So I say to you all: Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Kwanza Greetings and whatever other greeting I may have missed, as I get ready to put up my Christmas tree, hang the lights and set up my nativity set.
