Is it unlucky to keep your Christmas decorations up?

Epiphany is traditionally the end of Christmas and so you should have taken your Christmas decorations down by then.

The story goes that tree-spirits live in the greenery, such as holly and ivy, used to decorate homes.

Over Christmas, this greenery provides shelter for the spirits during winter. Once Christmas is over, however, they need to be released.

If they are not released in time, the greenery and vegetation might not return, threatening agricultural failure and famine.

Since your tree is not the old fashioned live type, this may not apply to you :apple::)

When should I take my Christmas decorations down? How long can I keep them up for? - Somerset Live
Yes, I think I'm okay. We have a fake tree, so no live branches for them to be released from.

I found this really nice picture that I wanted to post, but then somehow I closed it and couldn't find it again. (I wanted to tell you that after looking at the picture I could kind of understand why you would like to have that feeling year round).

Are you really going to leave it up year round? I know a guy who did that.

To me that is like having ice cream every day. Eventually what used to be a treat becomes boring or mundane.

To each his own, however - as long as it makes you happy :burn_joss_stick::snowman:

No, I'm not keeping it up much longer. I'm thinking next week it will come down. Spring is finally here and I can go outside now and soak up nature and plant my flowers. The tree was just to give me something pretty to look at until then.

I feel much the same - sort of like I am in a holding pattern.

When I was younger I would get this burst of energy in the spring - at the moment I am still waiting for that to happen.

(I hope it happens eventually!)

When I was growing up, we had to help take down every single Christmas decoration that afternoon, starting with the tree. By noon or 1pm on Christmas Day you could barely tell it was Christmas around our place. I used to wonder if werewolves or something would attack if we didn't get everything down and put up ASAP...lol

Wow - that is too fast.

According to some of the stuff I read online, Christmas starts on Christmas day, but maybe that is just old fashioned thinking. Now it seems to start right after (American) Thanksgiving.

Well...

It is with a heavy heart that I inform you all that Mr. Christmas Tree and I have had a conscious uncoupling.

In the spirit of love and joy, we have decided to remain dear friends for the sake of our baby boughs -- and the cats.
Don't think you can kid us. I know you guys will be back together. I give you till mid-October at the latest!;;D
