How does one plan for everything that could happen? For the last several decades here in the US (and practiced by both political parties) preparedness has involved keeping a minimal level of supplies stockpiled... enough to get us through a crisis until the free market kicks in and takes over the supply chain. That is a sound policy as long as we don’t go about wrecking the economy. Wrecking the economy is a sure way to guarantee anarchy.True, there might very well come along something worse in the future. But lets deal with this thing first. The sad thing about things that might happen in the future is that practically no political leader is willing to make plans that costs time and money on them. Thats the downside of how todays democracies function. You rarely think further than the next election. Making plans for 20-100 years ahead? Not my problem. Cant spend money on it. And so we will be unprepared next time too whatever it is, a virus, the zombieapocalypse or something else.
And you can't depend on the government to provide everything... we all should have enough supplies on hand to feed every person in the household for three months. How many of us have that?
