....this ole hound and his pretty missus will be attending the Dayton doins...I am a book tour virgin so this should be a case of a GNT literal literary deflowering....I hopes he's GNTL:rolleyes:....
Ooooooh, maybe Marsha will put in a good word for you to Steve to be on the lookout for a very tall distinguished-looking man with a beautiful woman hanging on his arm????????

Right now I see him on par with Bradbury in terms of legacy. I do think the large number of movies made based on King's books will ensure they continue to be in the public eye. There will always be a new generation of kids watching those and inevitably some will become fans of his books. And there are still hopefully many books yet to be written. Maybe he goes out with some magnus opus like Bowie.
I'd love for that to happen but I just don't see it. SK's writing is not in the same league as Bradbury's.

Yay! So excited. I was just going to ask if anyone is attending the Dayton tour! Maybe we can actually say hi! I am still deciding if I should wear my "Needful Things" or my "It" shirt. I think I am going to bring my "Needful Things" bag! ha!

It's all relative.

Stephen King's influence on modern fiction and movies is undeniable.

I'm a fan of both, but I also believe King will live on as his works are timeless for the most part. Bradbury too is great and no question was a forerunner in pushing readers to think about things that challenged their minds and will always be remembered as one of the first to do this.

Great authors!

...I think SK will leave an enormous Jetstream of legacy behind him...he and Mr. Bradbury are of different schools and different styles...but in terms of people affected or touched by the works-I think King outstrips Bradbury anyday....this is not to denigrate the quality of "thinking" novels of Ray's, but King challenges the mind as well, just down different dark alleys....

I talked with the person in charge in Reno and they only accepted 400 people because the bookstore has a firecode rating of 525 people. They wanted to host it at an offsite venue and were told SK wanted it in the bookstore. Crazy. The one nice thing is that all the participants in Reno will be getting a signed book. The woman in charge has been overwhelmed with the response. Please don't contact her if you didn't get a spot. She really wishes she could host more but she can't. She is looking into streaming the event on Skype or Youtube....she wants others to be able to listen to his speech. They aren't the evil empire, they are just trying to do the best they can with the hand they have been dealt. I will get info on streaming if it's possible, and I will post it here for everybody. Fingers crossed!

That is absolutely not true. I have been personally involved along with my associate at Scribner in the planning for the book tour from the beginning. We were surprised that they said they wanted to hold it at the book store instead of an off-site venue but at every event we left it up to the bookstore sponsor to decide where they would like to host it. It's being held at the bookstore because that's the location they chose.

If it was in the book store I work at we would fight to have it in store. We would trade our first born young to have it in the store. The sales that would be generated would be like the biggest Black Friday Sale ever in the known universe of Black Friday Sales. Just OMG we would.
