I agree they should postpone or move the game, as others have, but is Columbia the only place to get rooms? Personally, I would be calling all over as I evacuate looking for available rooms before committing to a particular city/town. (Unless I was hoping to get the chance to see the game, that is.)
I am sure they are calling all over, but this is a direct route and they aren't being allowed to stop. Having to move on if the hotels are full of other evacuees is one thing. Having to move on from a "reserved" room is another.

Have you done a lot of evacuation as well? Sorry bout your heavy generators to carry. You could be hauling bodies out of the storm. That would be a bitch on the back, eh?

Safe thought to all in the path. Help the animals.

I can only imagine how scary that must be... Stay safe everyone. :star: And take good care of each other (including animals)!

This might be a post for the Angry Thread, but just reading on the latest update that folks who are trying to evacuate to Columbia are being turned away from hotels because USC hasn't cancelled their football game yet and folks who have rooms reserved won't give up their rooms until they know about the game. What is wrong with people??? 1) postpone the stupid game, 2) give folks who are forced out of their homes a room, for Pete's sake!!!

Okay, that is just sick. :icon_eek: I really don't know what's wrong with people...

I din't know about the direct route and not being allowed to stop. Then it makes sense to give evacuees priority on the hotel rooms. But I did read they were announcing cities and towns south of Columbia that had available rooms.

Twice I went through a tornado evacuations. In Georgia and Pennsylvania. But I have been a volunteer after disasters, and was on body patrol in Wilkes Barre when I volunteered after Hurricane Agnes. Have you ever been a volunteer after any natural disaster? Also, I'm on light duty because of a leg and elbow injury... but I helped lift generators for customers, anyway.

Latest track does not bode well at all for Wilmington or the High Country.......
Yep. Piedmont NC, i.e. me and mines, are forecast now for 30-40 MPH winds and 6-10 inches of rain...

I'll take that...

Sunny what you and BF should do is have him drive up tomorrow and get you and then drive back and hang out with me on Friday...

Or just you on Friday...

Either works...

Seriously, now I'm worried more for you...

Danged forum I went and joined!!!

I'm still off on Friday. I didn't open my appointment book back up. Keep the DP on ice for me!!
Even though the storm has been downgraded, all the rain is a huge concern. I'm particularly worried about the willow tree next to my driveway. It sits precariously on an odd slope, and if it falls it could hit the house and take out my bedroom. I'll be sleeping on the couch all weekend, just in case.
BF is still planning to ride it out in Wilmington.

I was really hoping he'd decided to head out. My guess is you won't be sleeping much anywhere. (((Sunny and BF)))

He's going to be fine. He prepared for 18 days of worst case scenario. The downgrade to Cat 2 means he won't have the 100 mph winds, but still LOTS of water coming with the storm.
We'll get a lot of rain.....a lot of rain on top of three days of rain and flash flood warnings. My main concern is the tree next door if it decides to slide of that little hill. One good thing about living two blocks from the university is that power here in among the first restored, most of the time.

A woman who works for me told me yesterday that her cousin who has been living in Florida for the past 20 years finally got tired of all the hurricanes and recently moved and built a house in Wilmington, NC. Talk about bad luck.

When Charlie hit Florida, my grandmother (who was 90 or so at the time) lived in St Petersburg and Charlie was forecast to hit there. She and a friend of hers got a hotel room in Daytona for the storm. Charlie ended up making landfall South of St Petersburg and then ripped through the state and exited in Daytona. She ended up right in the middle of it anyway and St Pete didn't get much.

Just a word from someone whose been through this a lot. The worst part of the wind is usually to the NE of the eye wall. So, as this storm shifts South (as being predicted), those of you a few miles to the North of landfall, shouldn't let down your guard because the storm shifted a little South.
They already put up the tornado watch until 9P. Path has shifted once inland.
