Really? An actual follow-up/thank you letter/e-mail is pretty much the norm as far as I know. I have always done this.

I applied at a barber shop once for a sweeping position, but in my follow-up letter politely declined the job when I found out there were no topless days.......

Thanks all, for the good luck wishes. I have a small feeling in my gut telling me I didn't get the job, and I really want it. But this has happened to me before, and I wound up getting an even better job a month later, so I'm trying to stay positive.

What I meant was the person wanting a job sending a thank you note for the interview.
I've always told my son to do this to thank them for the opportunity.
I understand it's the thing to do nowadays.
Well, I just called and the person I wanted to speak with is "not here right now." Which may be code for: when your mail comes in 30 minutes, it will contain your rejection letter, so we really don't want to talk to you.
