Power Rangers - big budget adolescent hi-jinks. Daft, but not unenjoyable.
Life - horror movie disguised as sci-fi. See also "Alien."
Ghost In The Shell - visually impressive but, ironically, fairly soulless manga adaptation.

They usually tend to ruin all the anime/manga when they make them live action for some reason. (See also the tomfoolery that is Dragonball Z...ugh) I'm looking forward to Power Rangers, though!

Latest one I went and saw was the new Beauty and the Beast, which was a little corny, but huge on the nostalgia and a rather good adaptation. :m_adore:

Good Friday afternoon.

Beware the Slenderman

Tells the story of two 12-year old girls, who attempted to murder one of their friends in an attempt to appease Slenderman, a fictional monster from a horror website.

More than enough pathology to go around. Interesting IMO.

Hidden Figures

The story of a team of African-American women mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the US space program.

I liked Hidden Figures very much but there were times I didn't know whether to cry or slap the ch*t out of someone. I cringed when I heard the terms negro and colored.

Christine

The story of Christine Chubbuck, a 1970s TV reporter struggling with depression and professional frustrations as she tries to advance her career.

This was awesome! AWE.SOME. Rebecca Hall was excellent playing Ms. Chubbuck. She stood out but more like a sore thumb rather than larger than life. She seemed uncomfortable with herself which made me uncomfortable. The puppet shows she put on were like an opportunity to hear her inner dialogue. And I think she more likely suffered from Bipolar Disorder than depression.

I watched them all here:

Passengers - with the guy from that Guardians Of The Galaxy movie (franchise soon) and Jennifer Lawrence. It kept my attention but was run-of-the-mill stuff. Great FX!
Prisoners- good movie about two young girls abducted and the aftermath. Wolverine guy and Jake from Brokeback Mountain (his name is way too hard to type), Viola Davis. Sheer perfection in the acting.

I watched one hour of Beasts of the Southern Wild but the Jose Cuervo gave me a headache and I gave up on it. I'm drinking water now and plan on reading a little then getting to bed before eleven. Anyone watched it?
Dan, I loved Prisoners. Saw it at the movies. Made my stomach churn it was so realistic. That feeling of not knowing who abducted your child and not even knowing if they were alive...awful.

I can't imagine the pain and horror of a parent in that situation. H*ll, I can't even sleep until I know exactly where my pets are (usually in bed with me but sometimes they get a hair up there and don't come to bed)! I wasn't able to hear all of the dialogue (brother and his dog were a tad noisy), but even still it was wrenching.

I've wondered about this one several times, and with your recs now I know I want to see it. Thank you!

I ended up watching I Am Not a Serial Killer. Interesting little movie! The sound was muddy as hell, though. I ended up having to turn on the subtitles because the music was so loud in comparison to the dialogue. The rest of the family is in bed, and I didn't want to wake them up if I missed turning it down when the music blasted!

Knock Knock with Keanu Reeves - kind of creepy with a weird ending (two youngish girls come to a guy's house asking to use his phone while his wife and two children are away at their beach house).

Some nudity and swearing, etc.
They more or less 'rape' him and have a threesome, then take advantage of him/blackmail him the next day

I'd give it maybe two stars - a bit scary in some parts - just glad I did not have to pay to see this at a movie theatre

The Breed - This was on late last night, two brothers inherit an island cabin from their uncle - they go off with their girlfriends for a relaxing weekend, but then (dun, dun duuun!) they are besieged by savage dogs. Later they find a facility on the island that have been breeding and training the dogs to kill. Terrible movie but I watched it anyway :highly_amused:

The Witch. I liked it, I think. Not really scary (unless you're scared by possible possession by Satan, which I'm not) as much as strange, icky in parts, and mostly sad. The dialogue and costuming were phenomenal! I checked it out at the library, but I think this is one that I'd watch again.

One of my favourite films of last year. The attention to period detail was fantastic. The exorcism scene, for example, was based on authentic recorded dialogue. Plus, who wouldn't want a pet like Black Phillip?
