I think that over the past decade or so that McCammon has become the best writer among the traditional horror-genre authors. Surpassing the likes of King, Simmons, Koontz and others by a long shot. Other than 11.22.63 most of King's works over the last two decades have been average. Simmons has really digressed to the point of being almost unreadable with books like "Abdominable" and "Flashback." In the meantime, McCammon has peaked with his Corbett series. I read anything by these authors but McCammon is the one that I most look forward to reading at this point. Reading his stuff now is like reading King in the 70s and 80s. He has really found his groove.

Have to agree with you on McCammon. The Matthew Corbett series is fantastic and Rick has been in peak form since returning to writing. I'm not sure if he get overlooked because he works with a smaller publisher??

Hopefully, we get some news on The Listener soon!

Thanks for that! I picked up Ushers Passing, Gone South and Mystery Walk which i didn't have. Only wish the later Corbettbooks could be easier available than they are.

The later Corbett books---Mister Slaughter, The Providence Rider, The River of Souls, and Freedom of the Mask---should be available as ebooks outside the U.S. later this year. Nothing to announce yet, but a deal is in the works that will get English-language ebooks out to non-U.S. countries.

Just scored a signed first edition Avon paperback of They Thirst for $20 on eBay. Score! I've been looking for that edition for ages. :) Now, the only original McCammon paperback I am lacking is The Night Boat.

I also just ordered books three and four of the Matthew Corbett series, both signed firsts. I got a signed Freedom of the Mask when it released, meaning I only need to get book five.

Those three autographed McCammon novels brings my signed total up to... nine. Wow. My other signed books are Mystery Walk 1st hardcover (MW is my favorite McCammon so far, so I really cherish this one), Swan Song trade paperback, Gone South 1st hardcover, Queen of Bedlam trade paperback, and two signed copies of The Border. Most of those I've discovered in used book stores, I guess since McCammon lives here and does signings often?

And I am sure I will order a signed edition of his upcoming novel.
