Somewhere over the rainbow
:eek:
Mr. S. can hardly wait until tomorrow night;
He loves the Olympics and has threatened that he might
DVR the whole darn thing and watch it night and day.
Doesn't want to miss a second of the Games they'll play.

After years of living with him, I no longer grouse
Even though the Winter Games, which so enchant my spouse,
Strike me as insanity... A bunch of crazy kids
Hurtling down mountainsides on greased and fragile skids.

I feel for their mothers, holding their collective breath,
Fearing their beloved off-spring might be courting death
Flipping, flying, floating, freezing out there in the cold
Pushing past their limits in a quest to win the Gold.

I hope all the athletes who participate have fun;
Just the fact they're all in South Korea means they've won.
I'll be watching - cheering - warm and safely in my chair,
Wishing all the best of luck to everyone who's there.

I'm a little confused, I keep seeing that the opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday night, but elsewhere I'm seeing that Olympic "coverage" begins on Thursday. Why would they have events before the opening ceremony? Is this a TV time zone thing?
These Olympic Games actually start two days before the official opening ceremony. It already started with mixed doubles curling and ski jumping. The opening ceremony is just a staged event for the cameras. And face it, it wouldn’t have the luster if they changed the name to the ‘opened-two-days-ago ceremony.’

Yes. I enjoy curling. It involves a knowledge of physics and good strategy. It's "Chess on ice." The mixed doubles started off on Wed/Thursday and our team started out well...

Having now done some business in Asia, I have friends in other places. One of those friends in Seoul was saying, "Can't wait to see the Korean curlers!!"

I had to post this in response:

He was a good sport about it.

Will Canada win the ice hockey?

It's an interesting question. My very vague understanding - VERY vague - is that the NHL has said, "The Olympics can do their thing. We'll do ours." But it holds a very highly skilled pool of hockey athletes, because this is where the money is.

If my understanding is correct - no guarantee - it means that some of the top hockey players will be elsewhere than the Olympics. How does that affect the result in people's minds? Assuming all my assumptions are correct.
