The putting walker blood on items to make them bio weapons. That worked in the comics, but not on the TV. Comic people have been able to be turned by the blood since the beginning, but the TV people have had a metric buttload of walker blood all over them, with all sorts of injuries, and no one has turned. Hell, Rick stabbed a walker through his own hand and pulled the knife back out through the wound, and nothing. He walked around for the better part of three seasons with a bandaged hand, getting it slathered in walker blood over and over again. They've had the blood in their eyes and mouths more times than I can count. NO ONE HAS TURNED. So why should it happen now (aside from story convenience)?

I've not posted for a couple of weeks, mainly because dumbfoolery made a big comeback and I didn't want to be too negative, since it becomes wearing even for me. (And bear in mind I don't really mean 'foolery', but something rather more vulgar. ;))

Chief among things that wound me up (and have stuck in my memory):
1) Eugene's sexism. For all he knew, or knows, the ginger lady (if I ever had a name for her, I've forgotten it) might have worked in a munitions factory pre-apocalypse, or she might have other skills that could be utilised. Instead, he treats her like she's good for nothing, or maybe a lackey at best. I mean, it's character development of a sort, and thank God/the spirits of the greenwood/the Lords of Cobol/the Flying Spaghetti Monster for that because there's precious little to be had in the show these days, but...man;
2) Gabriel and the Doctor's little road trip, and the Doctor's apparent blindness/obvious lack of sense. Parts of that really began to feel like I was being smacked around the head with a Bible. Not one that's ever been opened and read for the actual content, mind; just smacked with it for what they suppose might be there. (I know the point is to show that Gabe is a man of faith, even now. But since he was and is a priest, that's kind of a given anyway since we've not really been shown otherwise. He might have questioned his faith a little but I don't remember him having a full-on crisis);
3) The least dramatic fight in TV history. With plot armour like those two had - including at least two zombies backing away from Rick (and therefore out of shot) despite him being squarely in the 'You're getting munched, mate' zone - it's wonder the space-time continuum didn't collapse into a singularity under the combined weight once they got within 5 feet of one another.

As for the latest ep, I can only agree with everything skimom2 has posted.
It would have been marginally more interesting if they'd developed a fever over time, maybe...but hey, been there, done that back at the prison in...what? Season 3? 4? But the best option would have been to leave it out. I mean, doesn't anyone on this crew look back over their past work or ideas and go 'Ah...'?
And re: Maggie, the only answer is that she's part-elephant, or at least has the reproductive system of one.
Oh yeah. More fake tension with Tara. Well, 1) I don't care about her anyway - don't mind the actress, just couldn't care less about the character; 2) it's obvious that nothing was on the arrow, not that it'll stop the 'was there or wasn't there?' from being milked beyond the point of death (it passed tedium almost immediately), no doubt with some 'amazing! It was tainted after all!' retconning if Alanna Masterson decides to...umm...walk; 3) she and Daryl have flip-flopped over Dwight for long enough, even though no strong, compelling reason for their respective changes of heart was really shown or given. That's annoying.
Henry also needs to go the way of that other annoying brat from Alexandria. Maybe Carol should make him some cookies and take him off to see the flowers, assuming he turns up again (and he's bound to, isn't he? Probably as a 'surprise reveal' to act as more plot armour for Negan)
.

Agreed..they have been literally bathing in zombie blood since day one,and bupkis..I thought,maybe the Neganners found some way to activate the blood,make it virulent,but it doesn't appear so,thought maybe I missed something like that..when Carol goes,and I think it is obvious she will,as they made a clear point of that zombie dropletting her,a lot of viewers will be put off for good..that in itself is not a deal breaker for me,I just think the show has about run it's course..

Some of the scenes reminded me of how TWD used to be: that yes walkers are dangerous and not to be toyed with. They usually have the walkers as placeholders and background filler rather than a present pressing danger these days. I thought the episode was good. There was action this time.

Scenes that got me thinking the writers/producers are insulting my intelligence as a viewer.

They used walker blood tonnes of times to disguise themselves as walkers and didn't turn. Why now?

Simon and Dwight thinking that everything was over, therefore, making them available for rounds of gunfire after everything went quiet.

The rule is get bitten then turn, now it's get splashed with blood or have the walker blood get into your bloodstream = turning into a walker. Didn't they already establish that you turn no matter what after dying because everyone is infected? Why would a bioweapon even infect them since they already have the virus dormant in their system? I get that the walker bite speeds up the process like venom only plausible idea.

Where are these walkers coming from after all these years and have not decayed a lot? The population of the earth has dissipated I'm sure.

Why did Rick hesitate to kill Negan and then say he could have but he didn't? He had plenty of chances plus he's good with a gun but missed shooting Negan numerous times.

Sigh.

My husband and I were talking it out (well, I was raging and he was interjecting every once in a while), and we think
maybe they're going to go around the issue by saying, "Well, this is walker GUTS, not just blood". Still a stupid endrun, but Rick did emphasize that Lucille was covered in walker guts. Never mind that any infection should be systemic, and they shouldn't be susceptible anyway.

This worked in the comics because there is no, "The virus is present in everyone" scenario (Jenner's secret reveal to Rick in the CDC episode was that Lori was pregnant, not anything else). It just doesn't work here.

The Tara thing is so freaking dumb. She was whatever with the doctor for what, a couple of weeks? And now it's a world ending love? Bleh.
As much as I love these characters (most of them, anyway), I'm about done with this show.

I hear what you're saying, but the guts? How about when they covered themselves with guts a couple times as camouflage? Nah, I can't buy that if that is going to be their angle..

Ah! But
the guts they camouflaged themselves with didn't go into their bodies (could be the argument)!
I hope they don't think viewers are this stupid, but I suspect they might.

Well, they do seem to be in a pattern of treating the audience with contempt (certainly post-all the negative crit S7 got).

I think they (or the bods at the very top anyway) have become confused. There's a lot of 'But it's in the comics so it has to stay in!', but as I've said before, they went off-piste there pretty much from the start, and have done so to an even greater degree (from what I know) since.
And never mind 'off-piste', they're not even on the same mountain range anymore after Carl's death, are they? So the 'But it's in the comics!' excuse, which was always a bit leaky, now holds less water than a bottle with the bottom cut out.

We are enjoying the guy who plays Simon. We can't call him that, though. The actor voiced a character named Trevor in the last Grand Theft Auto game and is the spitting image of the actor, as they do nowadays. We just call him Trevor. ;-D

He's really good. I think his character (and his acting) is one of the highlights of the past couple of seasons.

the problem is where do you get a scorching hot Gun Barrel in the middle of a zombie attack? It's going to take time to build a fire, and then heat up the Gun Barrel, too much time I'm afraid.. too funny that gun barrel was capitalized, my phone is going crazy..SPOI]

I looked it up, of course there's a lot of different variables and opinions, but after rapid firing, some exposed barrels heat up hotter for longer times, a Baretta 92 in combat getting too hot to hold, but only blisters and burns mentioned so far, not true cauterization, I dunno, how long would it take to hold it in place if such things were indeed even possible. That's why I qualified it by saying it might not work, but maybe its worth a try.
