Okay, this episode was actually really good. No overly drawn out and boring parts. Did they get new one time writers? :biggrin2: Rick and Morgan were so brutal, no mercy and they lied. What Morgan did to Jared made me feel sorry for him even though it was coming to him, really brutal caging him in with walkers. Kept thinking Simon was going to get it now from Negan for sure. Garbage lady pulled at his heartstrings.

I am so very glad that Jared got the death that he so richly deserved. It concerns me that Rick is now a huge liar.
You are supposed to be concerned.
Rick had to hit rock bottom, to become everything he never wanted to be, before he was ready to read Carl's letter and start the climb out of darkness.

Pretty good episode, aside from
that asinine bit where Negan had the gun and the flare. Oh, and how once again someone had the perfect moment to end him and just didn't. Asinine. Curious whether he picked up the woman who can point out Dwight as the mole or Dwight's wife.

One person I certainly would NOT want to be next episode is
Simon
. That jackass is in for a world of hurt.

Again, I'm in full agreement with skimom2. The dumb bits were painfully dumb, but overall it was pretty good, if uneven (as has become the norm).
The bit with the flare ending up in just about the only puddle in the region, judging by the way the weather looked, had me thinking that Jadis was hiding from the chopper (aka M*A*S*H wannabes). She seemed desperate for that flare to NOT be seen. Next thing she comes back waving another flare, so she DID want to be seen. But given the way the chopper hovered and turned, it was very clear that all she needed to do was stay put, waving optional, because someone up there had to have clocked Negan and the 'Bedknobs and Broomsticks' zombie.

I actually liked the previous episode much better. This one just felt too forced, except at the beginning and end ..... Don't know if we should still spoilerize the previous episode but
the entire stalking talk that Rick had with Negan in the ragged out building was really well-written and acted. Beyond classic when Rick told him, realizing that Negan didn't know, "It's times like these you find out who your real friends are." AHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAAHAHA

I just think it is best to always put the spoiler tag on for those who like to binge watch. :)

Jeebus Crisp, Rosita. Would it KILL you to
actually chase that slow, fat idiot and shoot him, rather than firing blindly into a wooden fence in hopes that a stray bullet might nick his mullet? And where the hell did Daryl's famous tracking skills go? Did he think Eugene just disapparated where his footsteps ended?
Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I had exactly the same thoughts, again.
Especially re: Daryl. I've wondered for a while if Rosita is actually as good as she makes out, as there's been little evidence of it. Guess now I have an answer to that. But Daryl not being able to track Eugene - through ash, no less - is just dumb when we've seen him follow barely-there trails before. It's been said elsewhere too, so I'm just repeating that here, but Mr Dixon has been criminally underwritten this season. If they're now going to simply forget or gloss over his core skills, well...

Apart from that - and maybe a couple of other things (
e.g. putting an enemy and known pacifist (well, he is a priest) to work making bullets, then being surprised when he sabotages quite a few
) - it wasn't bad. Again, signs that changes behind the scenes had been put into play already (loose threads being snipped rather than left to dangle into next season, which might have been the case before) but tbh that made the ep a little bit stronger.
I really wouldn't fancy a punch off either JDM or Stephen Ogg, though. Their fight was short but brutal, and more realistic for it. High-intensity five-minute slug-fests don't really happen; you burn a lot of energy and use a lot of oxygen in a good scrap, plus there's the punishment you're taking. Unless you're wired, you're generally...er...very tired after just a couple of minutes, so I thought that scene was pretty well done where it could easily have been drawn out to the point of tedium.

YES! Real fights are short, brutal, and usually ugly. Long, choreographed fight scenes usually make me roll my eyes so far back that I can see my brain (it's weird in there).

I'm wondering if
they're killing off Daryl. First, Reedus has been hyping this end of the season more than he's done for anything in at least two seasons. He's done the standard PR crap, but nothing above and beyond until now. Second, Gimple has made a couple of statements in interviews about people remembering that this is war, and people die in war, etc. etc. He looked mightily stressed in one interview, particularly when he said something like, "I hope to God they (the audience) like it." I personally think it's high time. They've done nothing with Reedus for at least 3 seasons now. He, and the character, deserves better than that.

Anyone else think this ro-DAY-o is about over? It seems that even the writers are bored/lazy now.

Ready for the season finale and better writing next season but I'm not going to give myself false hope that this will actually happen. This show has run its course, could have been like a Breaking Bad with no bad episodes. That show was sooooo good from start to finish, TWD had that potential and totally blew it.

Simon got an easy death was expecting Lucille bashing type death. The episode was ok but not spectacular enough for the second to last episode of season 8. The sea people part shouldn't even be in there why is he even still trying with them I know he wants more soldiers for the war but....beats me. Eugene was annoying as ever, time to get rid of him and the Preacher ugggh. Negan really took awhile to figure things out about Dwight with some help. At least Negan got to hear what Carl had to say, kept thinking Carl's idea of peace is good as a fantasy after all they've been through with Negan seems far fetched.

Arista, that's just Rick. That is what he has evolved into. Screw everything, survival is all that matters. From here he'll get darker & darker. I love Rick, but he has never been my favorite character. But in the context of the show he's basically Seinfeld. Without him the show dies.

Nope, I completely disagree. Still a wonderful series. To this point, better than Breaking Bad.

Zombie Simon, you mean the out of focus shots?I think, and may be wrong, but that looked like an animatronic zombie, too much hair and mechanical movement to be Ogg..I think..

Ah. Went and had another look and you might be right. Making an animatronic seems like a lot of work to go to just for that, but IDK, maybe it's actually pretty cheap and really easy, these days. (I guess all they'd really need is to make up a mask to go over an existing frame.)

Same with mine. Must be a writer-type thing. It's probably best not to look. But sometimes looking can be fun. ;)

Is it/should it be over? Right now I'd say yes. I know there's a lot of story left to tell and countless places it could go, but I think laziness in writing and continuity, coupled with some pretty poor handling and/or lack of proper oversight, has taken too much of a toll...and that's even before factoring in viewer fatigue, which every show tends to suffer from no matter how consistent/good (of course there are exceptions, but they immediately come to mind because they're so rare).
IMO S9 is really going to have to go some to arrest the slide, let alone bring the enthusiasm (and numbers) back.

In my opinion, they need to end the Negan storyline. It's run its course. They've milked it for as long as possible. I like the character, and JDM as an actor, but they need to kill him off. End the war and start fresh in Season 9. I'm not sure where I'd like to see the story go from here, but I think the show needs a bit of an overhaul if it's going to continue.
