I joined the Navy back in 1976, and was stationed onboard the USS Jacksonville (A fast attack submarine) from 1978-1982. Our ships library was a rag tag assortment of books people would bring aboard for our little community of 120 men to read.
The 3 Stephen King books onboard were our most highly prized titles. His stories were great to read after a hard day, and continued to read them after I returned home. In 1996 I bought a compilation of his stories , found an address for Stephen and mailed it to him , hoping he would sign it. He was gracious enough and indulged my request.
Now 28 years later, I just wanted to say Thank You. I still enjoy every story in that book and so many other since. I even started writing my own book (a historical fiction piece set in the 1980's onboard a submarine), and thank Stephen for keeping imagination & story telling alivesk3l.jpg

When I was serving in Vietnam, I was in the field for eight months with no access to any reading materials at all. Of course, King was in college at that time (1966-7) so he had not yet publicly published anything. When I was reassigned to a compound in Quang Nai, we did have a small library, where I became intranced with Donald Hamilton's Matt Helm series. Although dated, I still enjoy them.
